The cable cars were built in 2002 by Swiss engineers and its steepest gradient is at 42 degrees! Remember how a vertical right angle is 90 degrees? During our ascent the gradient looked impossible to climb and we were amazed and terrified at the same time! It took us right up into the clouds for a lovely panoramic view of the island.
Unlike other reviewers, what I liked most about it was the journey in the cable car rather than the view. It was by far the best cable car ride we have experienced. Even better than the Hong Kong cable car ride which is very impressive (and long) in its own right. Its a pity the sky bridge at the top was still closed for repair but that didn't dull our experience.
I would recommend people to come to Langkawi just for the cable car experience alone. It's that good!
If you're on a one day trip to Langkawi, I believe that the Cable Car service is a must go attractions.
The view from the top is simply phenomenal and to top it all of, the Langkawi Sky Bridge would be waiting for you at the top. If memory serves me correctly, the queue was quite long when I was lining up for a ticket. However, despite being a hater of long queues, I think it was all worth it in the end.
Of all the places that I've visited in Langkawi, I have to say that this one is my favorite. For those of you with DSLR cameras, this would be a great place to test your creativity and your photographic skills. The cable car ride itself provide you will a lot of time to snap the view of this duty free Island and also of Kedah from a distance.
However, if you're afraid of heights, I wouldn't recommend you guys to try it at all. One of my friends did that and he just turned dizzy and sat throughout the journey. His movements also made the cable car a bit wobbly for the rest of us. I hope that it wasn't torture for him.
A must do whenever you're in Langkawi, this attraction is perfect for tourist and even locals alike.
The entrance fee is quite reasonable for the view you're getting, which I don't really mind. I was so excited to get in the cable car and my word of advice, do come here as early when they open as towards the middle of the day, this place can get quite crowded and people are lining up. Good thing I came tad early and managed to avoid all the fuss and long queues.
When you're up there, the view is amazingly breathtaking. Although sometimes it can get a bit scary when you're really going up there slowly. If you're afraid of height, then this activity is not suitable for you.
The amazing view is perfect for some photo taking and you can see the beautiful scenery of Langkawi from here.
Early last year, me and my family went on a trip to langkawi for sightseeing. We decided to go on their cable car. Before sitting on one, I was a little bit nervous at first, given that we are so high above, and my mind started having funny thoughts. But the amazing view left me in awe. I was too distracted about looking at the view around Langkawi that I did not think about anything else. I had to take some photos as the view was very beautiful.
For just RM15, This is a trip worth going, and will be a memorable one for you.
Been to the Langkawi Cable Car last year and it was quite a great trip up to the top. As a visual artist and photography lover myself, I really enjoyed the ride up to witness the extraordinary panoramic view of the whole Langkawi island. Lucky for me I was there around 6, near to 7pm and I get to feed my lens with really beautiful shots of the sunset from the top. It was really amazing and it is definitely a place that I would love to go back again.
A really sweet benefit as a Malaysia citizen is that, we get to enjoy a half price cut from the original price when we flash our MyKad. Hence people should really remember to bring their ID card as they are quite strict in checking them.
On a recent visit to Langkawi, my family and I managed to squeeze in the cable car ride into our busy itinerary. As we bought the tickets (1/2 price for MyKad holders, yay!) it was already 6pm and we had to wait for the next batch to go in at 6.40pm.The cable car closes at 7pm since it would be dark by then. After we were admitted, there was a long queue to the cable car itself.
Let’s just say, we stood in line for almost 1 ½ hours, and by the time we got on the cable car, it was already dark and there was nothing much to see. All we could see from the ‘view’ were lights from the boarding station.
Since we didn't want to waste much time on the cable car, we didn't stop at the sky bridge and went straight down back to the boarding station. We were quite disappointed as we didn't get to fully enjoy the view from the cable car.
I have a fear of heights which is why I probably shouldn't have readily agreed to visiting the Langkawi Sky Bridge which was only accessible via cable car.
After queueing up for a short while to purchase our tickets, we had to que in front of a metal gate which would only open when the next vacant cable car arrived. Stepping in, my heart nearly fell to my feet as I felt how bouncy it was. It made me feel unsafe so when the cable car started taxing out of the station and started to ascend to the Sky Bridge, I was reduced to nothing but nerves. I remember my hands gripping the railings till my knuckles were white.
Thankfully I was able to forget abut my fear once we were about midway up because the cable car was equipped with clear glass in all directions and it gave me a panoramic view of the entire island. Just like that, my nightmare ended when we stepped off on the sky bridge. It would have been more of a pleasureable experience for me had I not been so concerned about plummeting to the ground some 500 feet away.
A ride of the famed Langkawi cable car offers great view of the island and the hills. Although I felt that it was a bit stuffy in the cable car, it got better as we went up higher. The view is simply spectacular and there are points to get off and take pictures.
I was lucky in the sense that I was there on a sunny day which wasn't too hot and humid. that also meant that I had clear and unobstructed views all around me. the ride can get a little scary when it gets a bit windy and the cable car starts to sway a little. but being the adrenaline junkie that I am, this only added to my excitement.
In order to enjoy the ride to the top of the mountain, you need a big heart. I have tried cable car in most of the place but never one like this! Once you step into the cart, everything is just like normal cable car. When the cable car starts to negotiate the hill, you will find that the surface of the hill is so near that it could be reached by hands! Of course, it is still distant away but the climb is steep as if you are taking an elevator instead of cable car.
