Yard & Co: Seaside Johor Cafe That Serves Milk Mochi & Has Outdoor Seats To Enjoy The Views

Yard & Co in Johor

There’s something about the sea that makes us go into relaxation mode. As we don’t get to see long stretches of calming blue waters often, it’s always a treat to find a place that lets us kick back with a serene sea view.

Over in Johor, there’s a cosy seaside cafe called Yard & Co that’s about a 30-minute drive from Desaru. Here, you can order massive breakfast plates and desserts like milk mochi, while enjoying a view of the sea.

There aren’t many aesthetic cafes by the sea. But Yard & Co is a gem you’ll find facing the South China Sea, at the tip of Sungai Rengit which comprises several fishing villages – leading locals to liken it to the setting of the popular K-Drama, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha.

Once you find the cafe, you’ll be greeted by a charming, low-lying building next to a deck with tables and chairs where you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the calming open waters and clear skies.

This al fresco dining space on the deck is one of the highlights of this cafe. Aside from that, there is a long concrete bench by the cafe’s entrance that’s great for those who are stopping to sip on some coffee and enjoy the serene sea view.

Inside the cafe, find a variety of seating options to enjoy the view too, as the space is surrounded by large glass windows that makes the most of its location by the sea. Choose to spend a laidback afternoon on a rattan sofa, or at long wooden tables that’s great for larger groups.

If you’re lucky, you might get a seat by the window with a direct view of the sea.

If the cafe’s ambience and surroundings aren’t enough to entice you, their menu will do the trick.

Find hearty all-day brunch staples, such as the Snooze Button (RM21.90) which is a plate of creamy egg benedict on bagel, and Yard Breakfast (RM29.90) – a big breakfast plate with seven brekkie favourites such as beef bacon, baked beans, and sourdough toasts.

Those swinging by for lunch or dinner with their pals can opt for heartier meals, such as the Sunbathing In The Midday (RM31.90) which is pan-seared barramundi fillet served on roasted pumpkins, and drizzled with salted egg sauce. Else, the Lobster & Lobster (RM108) is another fancy dish comprising lobster, mixed salad, fries, and mentai mayo.

They also serve Asian-inspired dishes such as Laksa Pasta (RM26.90), which is a creamy Johor-style laksa pasta served with prawns, fish cake, and taufu-pok.

Their desserts are a highlight. For starters, the Milk Mochi (RM15.90) is a popular order among customers, with doi-doi milk mochi served on a bed of peanuts, black sesame powder, and brown sugar syrup.

Finish your meal with their sweet and aromatic Rose Latte (RM12) or earthy Gula Melaka Latte (RM15).

If you’re not a coffee drinker, there are beverages such as Pearl Milk Tea (RM11) and their fizzy nitro-infused kombucha, Pineapple Green Tea Kombucha (RM15).
