Malaysians are kind-hearted souls. Over the years, we’ve seen people from all walks of life helping those in need, such as this teacher who helped a family clear up three lorries worth of thrash from their house and these traffic cops who rescued a family of three stranded in the Klang River and winning netizens’ hearts.

This time, a teacher from Langkawi is getting praised for guiding a visually impaired student across a drain at school.

On Sunday, 28th November 2021, a video of a school teacher guiding a visually impaired student to cross a drain at school gained attention on social media. The viral video, uploaded on TikTok by netizen Wanie Honey, shows a visually impaired schoolgirl learning to cross a drain with the help of her teacher and a walking cane.

Wanie mentioned in the comments section of her post the teacher, Ms Zahida, gave her the permission to post the video on TikTok. She also mentioned that the student who goes by the name Sofia has lost her mother, but still has an elder brother and an aunt who takes care of her.

Two days after the viral video was posted, Wanie posted another video of Ms Zahida teaching Sofia how to buy food from the school canteen. In it, she tagged the name and location of the school. The incident is believed to have taken place at Sekolah Kebangsaan Penghulu Ahmad, a national school in Langkawi, Kedah.


Winning hearts for her dedication to helping a disabled student


Since its posting, Wanie’s initial video has amassed over 430,000 views, 45,000 likes and 1,600 shares at the time of writing. Many Malaysians left heartwarming messages praising the teacher for her dedication to training the student and sent good wishes for little Sofia.

Netizen Prakash Rao Krishnan was among those who complimented the teacher for helping the visually impaired student to pick up essential skills. “Good-hearted teacher. Salute you, God bless you, Cikgu,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, another netizen named Azizah Hassan, said it’s important for everyone to always remember the contributions of their teachers regardless of their positions in life.


Helping students with disabilities in school


It’s heartwarming to see this teacher’s dedication to training a student with visual impairment to pick up essential skills, so she can live her life independently in the future.
