KLIA ranks 4th in the World’s Best Airport Immigration Service 2021

Malaysians are still going through tough times as we continue to battle with the Covid-19 pandemic, with cases hovering above the five-figure mark. Last week, we learnt the harsh reality that our country ranks 81 in the 2021 World Happiness Report with a happiness score of 5.384, behind several neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia such as Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines.

But this time, we have good news as the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) ranks fourth in the World’s Best Airport Immigration Service 2021.

The World Airport Awards by Skytrax – a UK-based consultancy that conducts airport and airline reviews through customer satisfaction surveys – has announced the top ten airports in the world with the best immigration service for 2021 last month.

On that list, KLIA, Malaysia’s international airport ranks fourth, overtaking strong contenders from different parts of the world such as Denmark, South Korea, Singapore, Switzerland and Qatar.

Japan leads the list with its Tokyo Narita Airport winning the World’s Best Airport Immigration Service 2021.  Hong Kong International Airport and Taiwan’s Taoyuan Airport follow closely in second and third place respectively.

Skytrax World Airport Awards states that the awards are selected “based on ratings of the efficiency, speed and courtesy of immigration staff service (including e-gate service standards)” and for this year, Covid-19 preventive measures for the immigration area were also taken into account.

It is also worth noting that KLIA had previously become the champion of best airport immigration service four times – in the years 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2017. The full list of the 2021 World’s Best Airport Immigration Service can be read here.

It’s indeed good news for all of us that we are doing better in the airport immigration service after a heartbreaking finding of the World Happiness Report that was released earlier this year.

We do hope that this would serve as a motivation pill for Malaysians to continue working hard to improving the quality of life for a better future, and for our leaders to also guide the country on the right path so that we can become strong again.
