Today (18 March) is the first day of the government-implemented Movement Control Order after the frightening spike in COVID-19 cases. While most of us have settled into the comfort of our homes, there are still a good number of Malaysians who are tirelessly working at the front lines throughout this period of time.

Needless to say, doctors and nurses are among those who are at the highest risk. They’re clocking in an endless amount of hours each day to keep the outbreak under control.

In support of our local healthcare workers, a kindergarten recently collected contributions to buy food for the staff at Hospital Sungai Buloh (HSB) and Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM) – 2 hospitals that are currently dealing with a huge number of COVID-19 patients.

Surprise delivery for health-care workers

A Twitter user who goes by the name of Izzati Noris posted on the social media platform about how the kindergarten she presumably taught at, Kinderland Sunway SPK, had taken the initiative to collect funds from students’ parents. These contributions were later used to buy takeaway food and pre-packaged snacks for the health-care workers at HSB and PPUM.

Her tweet that was posted earlier this morning has already garnered about 3,000 likes and retweets after only 7 hours.

In one of the photos that was posted alongside Izzati’s caption, there was a trolley with a number of boxes stacked on top of it. These were presumably filled with various snacks and tidbits for the doctors and nurses to munch on for a quick pick-me-up during whatever free time they have.

The kindergarten also ordered packets of fried mee hoon to PPUM. This act of kindness is sure to have touched the hearts of doctors and nurses over there, especially since it would’ve saved them the time from heading out to tapau the food themselves.

Students from the kindergarten had also written out sweet notes of appreciation to thank these unsung heroes for their contributions during this time of emergency in the country.

One of the messages reads: “To our front-liners in PPUM, we would like to convey our deepest gratitude for your service and sacrifice. You are a true inspiration. Lots of love from the students of Kinderland Sunway SPK Damansara.”

Everyday heroes during this COVID-19 pandemic

It’s heartwarming to see Malaysians, especially young kids, go out of their way to show appreciation towards these front line healthcare workers. It just serves as a reminder that we can always do more for the good of our society and also to earn extra karma points for the long run.

For those of you who are unable to donate funds to charitable causes like this, you can still do your part and stay at home during this 2-week Movement Control Order.
