Foodpanda delivery riders help clear fallen tree branches

Although we were plenty grateful to our food delivery riders pre-MCO, the “lockdown” has only brought about a newfound appreciation for these frontliners hard at work.

This time around, several Foodpanda delivery riders have found themselves on news headlines after voluntarily clearing fallen tree branches off a road in Penang so that other vehicles could pass through.

Rainstorm causes tree branches to fall on a road in George Town, Penang

The incident was shared by a Facebook page named Penang Kini whose source was Ana Mariana. According to the post from yesterday, 7th March 2020, a rainstorm had caused tree branches to fall and block the stretch of road opposite a condominium unit in George Town.

From the photos shared, we can see that the branches have completely blocked a lane. And with a condominium just beside, we’re sure that it must have been an inconvenience for the residents nearby.

Luckily for them, a small team of Foodpanda delivery riders who happened to be in the area stopped to help clear the branches off the street. Although the series of photos were taken from a distance, we can still spot the men in their signature pink and grey uniforms busily picking up tree branches.

As mentioned in the Facebook post, the delivery riders stopped to help even though they were in the middle of their shifts and selflessly partook in physical work during the fasting month.

Although they could just have easily switched lanes and avoided the blockage to carry out their delivery duties, they insisted on clearing the fallen tree branches for the safety and convenience of those passing through.

Food delivery riders help out local community

Malaysians are heartened to see food delivery riders going out of their way to clear fallen tree branches off a stretch of road even though they were in the middle of their shifts and presumably fasting. If anything, this story is just a reminder for all of us to be more considerate to our food delivery riders the next time we see them – just like this bunch of Malaysians who belanja-ed these heroes to some delicious food.
