It’s never easy to see a loved one go through hardship. A father in JB had the difficult task of having to witness his 3-year-old son go in and out of hospital for treatment, due to an illness that the toddler had to fight against from birth.

On the day that his son had to shave all his hair off for the sake of his health, he decided to shave off his own hair too. A Facebook post that he shared, along with a photo of both of them with their matching shaven heads, has gone viral online. Many have been applauding how the father went bald as a show of love and support for his son.

In an interview with China Press on 31st August 2021, the father, Tan Boon Kuang, shared that his 3-year-old son had been born with inflamed intestinal walls, and had faced stomach issues since he was 1 year old.

As such, his son had been admitted to the hospital for several separate stays for treatment, and for as long as two weeks at a time, but is unable to get surgery because of his age.

His son was recently discharged from a recent hospital stay on 31st August – the same day that they both shaved their hair off.

Chen took to his personal Facebook page on 31st August to share the heartwarming image of the both of them with their recently shaven heads. It went viral with over 200 shares and 2,000 reactions.

Along with the photo, he wrote, “I shaved off my hair with my son today, although it doesn’t look good. But it’s okay, Daddy is not afraid of being laughed at, as long as you are healthy. I have not cut my hair like this since 22 years ago. But I will shave my hair off with you.”

He proceeded to cap off his Facebook post by sharing a wish that his son will be healthy and safe. Understandably so, he said that it wasn’t easy to hear his son frequently talk about his pain, or see him visit the hospital every 2-3 months.

Nonetheless, he made sure to mention how proud he was of his son’s strength shown while battling against the illness.

Many have been wishing his son a speedy recovery in the comments section too, while also praising Chen for what he had done in support of his son.

It’s difficult for adults having to seek treatment at a hospital, much less children who may not be able to fully understand why they are there for.

So it’s touching to see dedicated parents, such as Chen, who is standing in support of his child in heartfelt gestures such as shaving his hair off with the boy fighting an illness.
