6,806 new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia today, 20th May


Yesterday, 19th May 2021, saw a worrisome increase in COVID-19 daily cases in Malaysia, with a record-high of 6,075 new cases recorded.

Today, 20th May, marks another unfortunate new high of daily cases since the start of the pandemic, with 6,806 new cases reported by KKM. Selangor clocked in the most cases nationwide at 2,277 again as well, while the current total of COVID-19 cases recorded in the country to date is just about 8,000 shy of half a million.


Selangor recorded most cases nationwide, KL in second


Following Selangor’s reported 2,277 cases, KL came in at second with the most COVID-19 cases recorded, with 655 new cases.

Trailing close after are Johor (615), Sarawak (608), and Kelantan (426).

Perlis (8) had the least cases nationwide, with Labuan (17) and Putrajaya (35) also managing to stay below the 100s.

Recently, there have been talks of a MCO being implemented in Selangor as it was during the start of the pandemic in Malaysia.

In an update today, 20th May, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan was quoted by several news outlets saying that a meeting with the National Security Council (MKN) will be carried out on Friday, 21st May. Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is also expected to chair the meeting.

A “total lockdown” will be a measure in discussion, and will be decided in the meeting which will have mentris besar and chief ministers present too, as reported by Malay Mail and Sinar Harian.


New record-high COVID-19 cases since start of pandemic on 20th May


Yesterday’s record-high COVID-19 daily cases came as a surprise to many of us who have been hoping for better days in Malaysia.

Today’s daily case number, which have knocked out the previous record in less than 24 hours, is definitely something of concern and a reminder for all of us to stay at home and only go out to replenish essentials.
