Young Malaysian boy draws realistic sketches of buildings

Malaysians have been showing off their talents during the Movement Control Order (MCO). And we’ve seen our share of talented local artists lately, with one wowing us with a futuristic Penang Overwatch map and another hilariously sprucing up his worn sneakers with a one-of-a-kind “Gardenia” design.
Now, we have another artist to add to the list of Malaysians killing it in the art game during the MCO: Fidaa. While we already have soft spots for children’s drawings, this 12-year-old boy is an art prodigy who has been flexing his artistic skills with realistic drawings of architectural wonders from Asia and Europe. And he does it all with just a ballpoint pen.

The talented young artist’s sketches were shared by his uncle on his Twitter account @anasjay_ on 8th June 2020, where it has garnered over 7,600 retweets and 20,600 likes at the time of writing.
When the MCO closed all schools to keep students safe from COVID-19, @anasjay’s 12-year-old nephew started sketching buildings with the extra free time he had on his hands. And he was inspired to do so because of local artist, Teme Abdullah, who is known for his sketches of buildings from around the world.

The resulting sketches of iconic buildings, such as the Parthenon in Greece, drawn by Fidaa look nothing like ordinary doodles or drawings from a kid either. With only a pen in hand – no rulers or other tools – Fidaa sources inspiration from history books and by searching for images of buildings on Google.

On 10th June, Fidaa’s uncle shared more of his sketches in another Twitter post. It showed the addition of several just-as-impressive sketches of buildings around the world, similarly done with just a pencil and pen too.

Fidaa also has an Instagram account that is run by his parents, where even more of his illustrations and detailed sketches of buildings can be found.

Young artist catches attention of his inspiration and netizens online
Anas had tagged Teme’s Twitter handle, @itsteme, in the tweet citing him as an inspiration for his nephew. With the tweet now viral, it didn’t take long for Teme to take notice of it.
In response to the sketches he saw, Teme tweeted: “When I first saw this I was already amazed. But then I zoomed in some more and found out that he was only 12 years old. This kid is going to go places in the future.”

He wasn’t the only one blown away by the young boy’s sketches either. Many netizens replied to the tweet to praise Fidaa’s work too. Netizen @haziqashrofie even went so far as to say, “That actually looks like something an architect would sketch. Well done. Give him a pat on the back.”

Another netizen @kucingitam also added to the high praises for the young boy, commenting on how detailed the sketches were. He said, “That’s really impressive. The shadows and proportion [are] on point.”

12-year-old Malaysian boy stuns all with sketches of buildings
Most of us still struggle to write a sentence in a straight line. This is why we’re more than impressed with Fidaa’s realistic sketches of buildings – drawn freehand, and with just a pen or pencil to boot. It’s yet another great example of Malaysians staying productive during MCO that’s serving as an inspiration to us all too.
