Pearl Abyss’ upcoming game, DokeV


Gamescom, also known as the world’s largest event for computer and video games, took place in Germany from 25th to 27th August. Pearl Abyss, a Korean video game developer and publisher, shared the trailer of their upcoming game, DokeV, during Gamescom 2021. 

It has not even been a week since the release of the trailer, but the video has already garnered more than six million views on DokeV’s YouTube channel.

A game about catching goblins

The upcoming game is a cross between reality and the virtual world. According to Pearl Abyss, DokeV is a “creature-collecting open world action-adventure filled with intriguing stories and set in a unique, vibrant world.”

Besides being an open world game, DokeV is about the main character embarking on an adventure to catch goblins.

Here, goblins refer to god-like creatures from traditional Korean folklore. If you’ve watched Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, you’ll be familiar with the kind of goblins we’re talking about.

The game’s name, DokeV, is also a play on the Korean word for “goblin” – 도깨비 (dokkaebi).

The trailer revealed that the game is set against a backdrop where various quintessentially Korean landscapes, such as hanok houses, are featured.


Making DokeV a family friendly game

According to Kim Sang-young, lead producer of DokeV, Pearl Abyss is developing DokeV as a family friendly game in hopes that the entire family can enjoy it together. 

Also, Pearl Abyss is doing their best to make DokeV available on consoles and PC platforms so that more people can enjoy the upcoming game. 


DokeV, a game set against the backdrop of Korean culture 


Many gamers are anticipating the launch of DokeV as this unique game includes elements of traditional Korean culture. Although the launch date has yet to be confirmed, Cho Seok-woo, Chief Financial Officer of Pearl Abyss, said that their goal is to launch DokeV in 2022.
