One of the prominent filming locations of Coffee Prince is Sanmotoonge Cafe, located in the Jongno district of Seoul. Set atop a hill, the cafe offers a panoramic view of Korea’s mountains such as Inwangsan and Bugaksan – hence, the cafe is named 산모퉁이 which means “cafe at the corner of the mountain”.

When Coffee Prince aired in 2007, it was immensely popular and gained around 27% in national viewer ratings, which is considered very high. By comparison, Gong Yoo’s most recent K-drama hit, Goblin, garnered 20.5% in national viewer ratings at its peak.

The drama tells the love story of Choi Han-kyu (Gong Yoo) who runs a cafe that only hires handsome young men and Go Eun-chan (Yoon Eun-hye) who cross-dresses as a man in order to work there.
