Jakarta’s M Bloc reopens with new health guidelines

M Bloc is one of the hip hangout spots that’s located in South Jakarta. It’s not just a creative hub that caters to music and art enthusiasts, but also known for its culinary options for foodies in the know. 

Unfortunately, COVID-19 forced M Bloc to put a halt to its activities in mid-March. But following the loosening of Jakarta’s social restrictions, it has recently reopened its doors to visitors, with new registration and health measures in place.

In an effort to make M Bloc a safer place for visitors and workers, this creative space is committed to its #responsiblereopening procedures. For now, it will operate at 50 percent capacity. To properly enforce this, M Bloc has come up with a free online booking system so that only visitors who show their M Bloc Responsible Reopening E-Voucher may enter.

In addition, like many businesses that have started to accept customers again, M Bloc makes sure that all visitors have a temperature below 37.5°C.

All visitors are also required to wear masks within the premises, and they are not permitted to come in groups of more than five people. Social distancing and frequent handwashing are also strongly encouraged. 

Live concerts are still prohibited

Despite having decided to reopen to the public, M Bloc will still refrain from holding live concerts and other events that could attract large crowds.

For now, visitors can enjoy checking out the stores and eateries. Alternatively, those who would prefer to support M Bloc or enjoy its community while staying home can also buy tickets to attend online M Bloc Academy seminars on topics surrounding the Indonesian creative industries, as well as online concerts.

Visitors to community and arts spaces will be adjusting to COVID-19 measures

It might feel unusual for those who loved performing in person and going to live gigs before COVID-19 to watch virtual concerts. And even casual visitors of M Bloc might need some time to get used to the new arrangement.

But we can still interact with our communities online, and keep up with Jakarta’s subcultures despite the pandemic by listening to local indie musicians or reading the experiences and tips that independent artists have shared.
