Jakarta’s Kota Tua museums reopen
Jakarta’s large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) has been loosened, and offices and businesses aren’t the only ones that are gradually reopening their doors. Several museums in Jakarta’s Old Town, or locally referred to as either Kota Tua or simply Kota, have reopened with extra health and hygiene protocols in place.

While the large square at the center of Kota Tua is still closed, three museums located within the area – namely the Puppet Museum (Museum Wayang), the Jakarta History Museum (Museum Sejarah Jakarta), and the Fine Arts and Ceramics Museum (Museum Seni Rupa dan Keramik) – are now open.

As reported by The Jakarta Globe, strict health and hygiene measures are in place. Visitors are required to get their temperatures checked upon entering and they are not permitted to linger too long at the exhibits.

While it may not be an ideal way to enjoy a day at a museum, those who need to spend some time away from the confines of their home or kost now have an additional excuse of having to catch up on some cultural education to venture outside.

Many Jakartans might miss being a tourist in their own town. Kota Tua is one of the most famous places to hang out, get snacks, or just stroll around in Jakarta. There aren’t that many open public areas where people can just take it easy, so it’s understandable that this place is missed.
At least there are cool museums within Kota Tua that you can visit until the COVID-19 situation improves.
