I used to run along the Singapore River (particularly the stretch along MBS), and reaching the barrage was both my favourite and least favourite part of the jog. It was my favourite because 1. there were water points and 2. when I ran up the barrage it was super breezy, but it was my least favourite because I had to run uphill.
It's a great spot for picnics, kite-flying (the wind up there is amazing), and chilling with friends. I'd advise against going up at night though, because the insects once the sun goes down are plentiful and I don't like bugs. You also get an amazing view of the Singapore skyline, with MBS in the background, so it's great for taking pictures and enjoying the city. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you're looking for a cheap date idea.

Marina Barrage has many things going for it. A prime location in the center of the city, and gorgeous views of the Singapore skyline at night. However, Marina Barrage, being so popular, draws massive crowds constantly, and this left a sour taste in my mouth.

Yes, it is a good spot to fly kites, take pictures, and have a picnic, but that could be said for plenty of other recreational spots in Singapore like East Coast Park and West Coast Park. The sheer number of people coming in on weekends suffocates the entire atmosphere, making a visit to the Barrage more trouble than it's worth.

I don't hate the location - it's pleasant, and enjoyable at times. Sun and wind never did anyone any harm, but in this case, it isn't worth it. Don't brave the crowds. Do the smart thing, and head to another location.

To have a good view of Singapore, Marina Barrage is the place to go.
If you're looking for a place to relax after bustling the streets in Singapore, it's the place I would recommend.

Once the sky turns dark and the crowd's moving out - that would be the best time to head over. To me, it's quite a romantic spot to chill with someone special by laying on the grass and star gaze, or even looking at the view of Singapore's skyline.

If you're looking to have a date with the special someone, consider Marina Barrage. Grab a bottle of wine and some grapes, have a picnic for supper and you would be amazed with how wonderful the night can turn out to be.

Try to avoid the barrage on the peak hour as it can get pretty crowded.

Marina Barrage is a great place for relaxation, taking a break from all those hectic work be it school or working in an office. Having been to Marina Barrage for quite a few times, it does not get boring at all and every time you go there you can do different activities. A while back, I went with my polytechnic friends to have a picnic as a form of bonding session. We brought snacks, home-made food, guitar for pleasing music in the air and even played the classic game of catching across the big open roof top.

You do not need to take transportation to Marine Barrage as there are jogging/ cycling paths which people can use. I have personally cycled with my friend from Singapore indoor stadium, following the route, all the way towards Marina barrage. We would ride in and refill our water before take a stroll to the bridge and having a sit over looking the two divided sea water and fresh water.

These are just some of the most beautiful memories that I have with Marina Barrage. To be honest, I really felt relax every time I go there as the wind blows and the feeling of being close to nature (although it is closer to the city than to nature but still...) helps distress if you will call it.

Do plan ahead like checking the weather because you may never know what will happen. Haha! :)

If you know me well, you'd know that I am the biggest fan of picnics. Marina Barrage is one of the best places to have one and the thing I like about it most is that it's windy. Morning, afternoon or night, it is windy. Just perfect for kite-flying!

What annoys me about the barrage is that it's quite ulu to get to. You would have to take a bus from Marina Bay MRT station and the bus comes at irregular timing. Of course you could opt to take the shuttle bus but even till now, I have no idea where to board it. Do not ever try to walk there because my friends and I tried it before...it took us about 45 minutes.

However, the view from the barrage is amazing. If you want a great view at sunset, the Marina Barrage is definitely a great place to be at. I can't wait to visit it again!

The best thing about Marina Barrage is that it has a wonderful view of Singapore; from the massive skyscrapers in Shenton Way to the view of the Singapore River! Its free admission and wide open spaces make it perfect for class outings, gatherings and picnics.

However, the bad thing about Marina Barrage is that its quite hard to get to; it is not in a very convenient location :/ However, if you are prepared to stay there for long, then the trip there will definitely be worth it :)

I suggest planning your trip there in advance and check out what the weather conditions for the day are. If it rains, there's not much alternative entertainment around that area that has shelter. Go on a bright sunny day and I'm sure it will then be an awesome adventure :)

Marina Barrage. Green field. Kites. Picnics. Beautiful.
Whenever I think of marina barrage, I think of the memories that I had with my friends there. It is really a good place for bonding and picnics. Of course, the admission is free which is really good for poor students like us.

If you decided to go there, do not forget to bring a kite along and some food. Check the weather as the best way to utilize the time spent there is when there is no rain. Compete with another kite-flyer to see whose kite can fly higher, have fun, get fat, laugh.

It is one of the best place to fly a kite as the wind there is really strong. With so many different colorful kites decorating the blue sky, and the addition of the lush grass carpet under your feet, it serves as a really beautiful backdrop for photo enthusiasts. I would definitely recommend people to go there for a good enjoyable bonding session.

After burning out the whole week at work, or churning out hours in school, how does an outdoor space with a tinge of tranquility, sounds to you? What if it can bear witness to sunset, even to the beautiful city lights of Singapore at night? What if there are fascinating water fountains, kite-flying at the two-story manmade park, with a breathtaking scenery to boot? It ought to tempt you. (It has to!)

Other than it being a beautiful place to hang out in, I had no idea that it was actually Singapore’s 15th reservoir, the first in the heart of the city. It is a great place to hangout with your friends, or to enjoy some quiet time with your other half or simply, enjoy the sunset, which was exactly what I did.

It is absolutely relaxing when I first went, and I like that even when there are a lot of people there, I can still manage to find your own private corner at the open air field above because it is a huge place. If you don’t mind getting wet/ you can play at the water fountains, almost like a water playground, not just for kids but for grown ups as well. You can also choose to kite-fly there. Don't have to worry about not having a kite to fly, because you can buy it at a convenience store below (it is quite cheap too!) It is even more magical at night, not to forget a lovely view of the sunset, which is truly amazing.

It is definitely a place that you would want to go! (And the admission is free, so why not!)

The Marina Barrage is one venue I always love to bring my family and overseas friends to visit...because the history leading to the construction of this awesome infrastructure and the amazing engineering feats achieved never fail to inspire and bring on the "Wow!"...

Yes, the Marina Barrage, with it's opened and spacious vistas are hard to come by in our densely built up urban landscape. The field at the top, functions as a great cooling roof and rain catchment, are perfect for picnic and kite flying (read: no trees to ensnare your flying "apparatus".) or simply a place to chill out. The water park with it's sprays and water arches will especially be a favourite among children...and may even bring out the kid in us all. At night, the Barrage takes on a different vibe as the water fountain delights with its colourful music-lights co-ordinated hydro display and with the beautiful skyline of the Marina Bay precinct, makes a great photo-taking backdrop.

While there are eateries at the venue.. I am unable to commend as I've yet to patronise any as I always commute elsewhere for food jaunts or come prepared with picnic baskets. And for those who have yet to visit the MB and those who drives ...here's the sweetener - there's no entry fee and the parking is free. So make a date to visit MB...not just MBS.

I must confess this place does not thrill me. Having said that, the view back over Marina Bay and Kallang basin to the city is spectacular. The construction of the barrage wall with its massive barriers is mildly interesting and the few displays relating to water are so so.

What is great is the sweeping, grassed circle that leads you form the top floor of the building that houses the ubiquitous restaurants and headquarters of the place back down to the water play area (nice) on the ground floor.

It is a reasonable destination, but only if you have nothing better to do.
If you are a walker, walk back through Gardens on the Bay to the city or cross the barrage and wander through the gardens on the eastern side to reach a bus at Tanjung Rhu or further on a little, the MRT at Stadium.
