Sogurt is a fond memory associated with my Secondary school and Junior College days. After a tiring day of back to back classes, my friends and I would pop over to Sogurt for a quick froyo fix.
One of the best things about Sogurt is that it’s self-serve, so I could customize my own dessert. I’d always take an assortment of different flavours and then drown my mountain of froyo with different toppings such as yogurt balls and oreos. My favourite flavours were green apple, chocolate and strawberry.
I would say all of the flavours are nice, except red velvet. To me, it just tasted similar to playdough, but some of my friends do like it, so I would advise you to try it for yourself at least once before writing it off.
Sogurt serves frozen yogurt that is high in calcium and low in fat. It serves more than 10 flavours and the more popular ones include Original, Red velvet and Chocolate flavour. Sogurt introduced a more hands-on concept which gained much popularity. Customers are able to dispense yogurt at the machines and personally decorate their yogurt at the toppings counter. Payment is then made according to weight.
Sogurts have 8 outlets in Singapore and I’ve visited the ones at United Square, Bukit Timah and Marine Parade (now closed). I must say that the quality of yogurt differs in different outlets - some are creamier while others taste more diluted. However, the differences aren’t very large! Sogurt remains one of my favourite yogurts despite new competitors in the market such as Llao llao.
The heat has been bearing down on everyone and the dessert that comes to mind would be ice cream or yoghurt. It helps that you can get your ice cream or yoghurt fix anywhere. Throw a dart at any point on the Singapore map and there'll probably be a cool treat to help you beat the heat. Yoghurt seems to be the go-to choice now, though, with people being more health conscious.
Sogurt is one of the first franchises to open in Singapore, setting the trend for other brands. I'm not a big fan of yoghurt, with its tangy taste overpowering the flavour, be it chocolate, vanilla, strawberry or any other flavour. I decided to give Sogurt a try anyway, with people raving that it tastes exactly like ice cream.
I commend Sogurt for its concept. It's DIY for the most part and at $3 for 100g, value for money would be dictated by your appetite. The flavours available are creative too, with Lychee, Nutella and Red Velvet Cake among the mix. You get to add in toppings such as Nata De Coco, marshmellows and cookie pieces, to name a few.
The yoghurt is served like soft-serve ice cream. However, yoghurt is still yoghurt. Although the individual flavours were apparent, the tangy taste is still there, being reminiscent of Yakult or Vitagen. It's personal bias on my part and I'm sure that the majority of people would appreciate yoghurt in this style. I wouldn't mind having this from time to time either, compared to overly sweet ice cream.
Makes for a favourite froyo
Sogurt is one of the best froyo places out there. It's kinda like comfort food. When you have it, you just automatically feel better.
It's a Do-It-Yourself kind of frozen yoghurt shop, like many other shops out there today. They have many flavours for you to pick from. I always go for original, but I can safely say I wouldn't mind having most of the other fruity flavours in Sogurt, because they are just so good. For example, the lychee flavoured one is really good as well!
They have a wide range of toppings and that makes it even better. The price is really affordable too. They even have special prices for students - 10% discounts.
Sogurt makes me happy. Go for it.
Sogurt? So Good...
Sogurt used to be my go to place after school if my friends and I wanted to find an air-conditioned place to chill at. We were all fans of sogurt and of course got the Sogurt membership card so yeah, you can tell we love Sogurt.
I really like the concept of Sogurt - how it's self-service and we get to create our own special mix. Students also get 10% discount which I thought was pretty cool. The froyo at Sogurt is unlike the froyo in other places. They're more icy and have a popsicle-like texture to it, not creamy at all. They have a variety of toppings which was great because on days when I don't feel like having lots of froyo, I would spam their toppings instead hehe.
I've also tried their mini pancakes at the Bukit Timah outlet. To be honest, I was really excited for it but for 4 tiny lil' pancakes, $8 was just too much. It didn't even taste that fantastic. Nevertheless, Sogurt still ranks in my top 5 favourite yogurt shops and I would go back for more froyo any day.
What can be better than our own creations!
Absolutely love the fact that we're able to create our own cup of frozen yogurt at Sogurt! Everything is weighed and accounted for, even the toppings but what I really like about it is that we get to add as many toppings as we like.
More than actually enjoying the yogurt, I like to have adequate portions of toppings on my froyo such that every bite could be sensational. I bet every one of us had had their moments of staring at the froyo staff spooning our choice of topping, secretly hoping that they'll add just that little bit more.
Now we not only get to add one or two toppings of our choice but plenty (as long as you're willing to pay for it)! The yogurt quality is not too bad, though I admit I can't really differentiate the taste between all the different froyo stores. Great fun!
Will definitely be back for more
I was never a fan of yogurt until I was dragged to Sogurt by my friend. I was actually amazed by the range of flavours available. I immediately went for the tiramisu and nutella flavoured ones, followed by the addition of toppings. There were the healthier choices of cut fruits, nuts and oats. But of course I went the other way with chocolates, cornflakes and candies. It tasted amazing.
However, I went a little over board and had to pay almost $10 for it. I must admit, it is rather "dangerous" for someone like myself to go there. Their concept of paying according to weight is somewhat clever, with some people having to pay extra due to over indulging with the toppings. Though, it did teach me a lesson, to only eat what you can.
Lesson learned, and I will definitely be back for more!
Hip and Healthy
Ever since trying Sogurt, I have been going back regularly to get my fix of froyo- not just for its delicious froyo and toppings, but also because of the chance to appear on their Facebook page if they ask to take a photo of you and your self-designed cup of froyo. Yes, and if you upload a picture of your cup of froyo to Instagram, they might even repost the photo and tag you in it as well!
I love the friendly interaction between Sogurt and patrons. They constantly take in feedback and introduce ideas to see if their customers love it. Although Sogurt is a little pricey, many people still frequent it as their froyo is healthy yet delicious. The concept of allowing us to choose whatever we want (just as long we can pay for it) is attractive and makes people come back for more.
Eat all you want (as long as you can afford it)
Ever since the first time I've been there, I've been going back for more. The part I love the MOST about Sogurt is that you really get to choose how much of each flavour you want to have, and you get to pile as much topping as your heart desires. This concept sure beats the standard 'small medium large' concept of other yogurt stores. I also love the design of the place, it's really good and they play good music (most of the time), and the cashier is always friendly.
For students, there is even a discount, and they will just assume that you are a student as long as you look young, haha. It really irritates me to no end when you are required to show your student card when purchasing things cos it's such a hassel!
I love you Sogurt!
Create your own unique frozen yogurt
I used to frequent the Sogurt outlet at Marine Parade pretty often as it is located near my school, and my friends would drag me down to the outlet for a quick and sweet treat as we chat.
My favourite part about Sogurt is that they allow each customer to create their own unique frozen yogurt. With several dispensers, each containing a different flavour of frozen yogurt, customers can dispense frozen yogurt of their choice, and can even mix up the various flavours. I love to swirl yogurt of different flavours into my cup, as this creates a cup of frozen yogurt that is definitely unique, and I enjoy the feeling of having several flavours burst inside my mouth (though my friends claim that that is utterly disgusting).
The yogurt at Sogurt is priced based on its weight, but the price can be a little steep at times when I get carried away and disregard the weight.
The flavours of frozen yogurt at Sogurt are definitely pretty varied, so there's a wide selection of flavours for customers to choose from.
Definitely worth the visit for froyo lovers!
