Feel like the star of the stage, in a small studio in Tanjong Pagar

Pole dancing is finally losing its negative reputation as more and more people realise its benefits, both physical but also mental. After a taster session a few years ago, I was keen to give it another go and embrace my inner star, and when myself and my friend went to Pole Dance Academy I was so glad that I did. The instructors were friendly and positive, but also pushed us just the right amount, encouraging us to work on moves we thought would have been impossible. In just one term we learnt the basic moves and also how to add ‘flair’, finishing off with a full routine. Expect battered hands, bruises on the inside of your thighs and sore shoulders for days, but also an unexpected feeling of accomplishment and confidence.

The studio was small but so were the classes, at its maximum reaching an amount of four people, so you get a really high amount of help on how to improve. The extremely taught and bendy instructors could not be more friendly and down to earth, I often stood in awe of their so called ‘stripper shoes’ and their ability to perform such complicated moves. Although I was doing moves they could do in their sleep, I still felt like I should be in a show in Vegas and that’s all thanks to the amazing staff and how they make you feel.

There are two classes a week you can choose from, depending on how quickly you want to progress, as well as the option of yoga and flexibility classes to help to improve your pole skills, however I only went once a week and found that it was fine. The location is quite tricky to get to and the class finished a little late at night, however for the decent price of $30 per hour, these are both worth it. If what you’re looking for is an alternative way to get fit and improve your confidence, I strongly recommend Pole Dance Academy.
