Nice ribs but could still be better
Billy Bombers reminds me of Bomberman.. but of course its not. Its an American Diner, which can be easily recognised with its Juke Box and Diner seats and booth complete with a cafe counter (not exactly sure what to call that). In terms of ambience, i think Billy Bombers has successful re-created the look. They even have Coke in glass bottle imported from USA, and i wondered if they sent it back for recycling cause i had seen them placed in crates before.
Billy bombers always have same promotions every now and then and it is often some 1 for 1 type of deals which actually makes it very worth while to eat there. I think the most recent one I went was a UOB promotion for a 1 for 1 main course, which saved me quite a lot when I brought my family there.
Their ribs are pretty nice to eat. Coated with sweet bbq sauce (a little too sweet for me), the portion is not huge but is filling enough, and the meat is very tender. If you cut the ribs along the right end, the ribs would just fall apart. It is really yummy, but I felt that a little bit more charred, would add a smoked taste to the meat and make it even better.
Milkshakes better than the hot items
I come here just for the milkshakes at times and I'm glad to say that the milkshakes are of the same good standard at all of their branches. They actually use a metal shaker to make the milkshakes and pour the contents into a glass at your table. The extra milkshake that cannot fit into the glass will be left at the table for you to top up your glass. I love this touch that they add to their service.
Food-wise is not very impressive. It's the standard American fare with large portions. The fish and chips and pork ribs that I've tried were satisfying. Overall, a good place to eat at, but their milkshake beat all other items in their menu hands down!
Bad for your wallet but great in your mouth
Enter into a vintage American styled restaurant with jukebox, booths and great American food. Seated in the booth makes you feel like you are in a real american restaurant and the place is nicely decorated with its vintage posters and tissue box.
The food is great. I ordered their ribs set and the serving size is very generous. The ribs are tender and the sauce complements the pork very well. I also ordered their Oreo Blended Milkshake. Not too creamy and not too sweet, It was delicious, thick and totally deserving to be have the reputation of serving one of the best milkshake in town.
After that nice meal, I dreaded what came next.. the bill! For an unemployed undergraduate, this meal is considered quite expensive but the price is quite justified considering the whole ambience, service and food that they provide. So for those looking for a good american meal, check this restaurant out and do look out for the health of your wallet!!
Probably a big hit in America, not on local shores though
Not anyplace special.
I went in on a whim with my friend after hearing supreme reviews about it from my colleagues. So I guess I had high hopes and that was what started the disappointment.
I ordered a Oreo Blended Milkshake and that delivered well. I was having a good chat with my friend while absolutely relishing in the decor. I love anything vintage and 70's and this place had tiny music booths. I must have annoyed at least 3 staff asking if I can please bring it home.
My main course was their Fish and Chips and I was heavily appalled. It tasted like something I could get at a Kopitam. Not to diss our local hawker fare but I paid restaurant prices. My friend's order was their Mixed Steak or similar and according to him, it was Jamie Oliver in his mouth so maybe try that instead.
Not a place I'd go again.
Come here for the milkshakes!!
I went to Billy Bombers once to celebrate a birthday. The sad thing is, I cannot really remember how the food turned out, so I will skip that. The only thing that I can think of would be the milkshake I ordered, because it was just so good. I ordered a cup of something like cookies and cream milkshake. It came in a metal container, and because there was more than one person sharing the drink, they provided extra glasses for us.
The milkshake was not too thick and creamy, and the sweetness was just right. It tasted heavenly, like ice-cream, but in the form of a drink. I do not like drinks that are too thick because it can be tiring to sip it out from the straw. A man actually came into Billy Bombers just to order a milkshake, and nothing else... That's how good their milkshakes are.
Also, because we told the manager that we were celebrating a birthday, the staff actually brought out a specially made birthday ice-cream brownie to the table, and it was on the house! We were all delightfully surprised! Do not know if they do this for every customer who claims that they are celebrating their birthday, because we did not have to take out any evidence that we were there for a birthday occasion.
Definitely an extremely satisfying visit. Will definitely return for their shakes, which I also highly recommend to anyone reading this!
I love Billy Bomber’s interior design concept! I think anyone who walks in would be able to decipher that it is a “re-make” of America’s retro diner concept. It is flanked by jukeboxes (even miniature ones on most tables), and those cushy, shiny metallic couches.
Billy Bombers is really just another Western restaurant – the only thing that probably sets it apart from the rest is its unique interior design concept. That means, food wise, it is not anything out of the ordinary; but nevertheless, still very delectable.
The dishes are scrumptious – their pasta is a must try! To be honest, in my opinion, their food is over-rated, and so are the prices. A little costly, I must say. It is not entirely worth the price you are paying for.
It is great for both friends and families, because of its cosy and friendly ambience. They have very comfy and cushy seats – which is probably the reason why so many of their customers still hang around and talk for a long time despite finishing their meals. Great for gatherings for large groups of people!
All in all, it is a great place to have a meal and catch up with friends, but with the high standards set for food these days, try not to expect too much from the Billy Bombers.
My dining experiences have always been pleasant, although they have always left me balking at the bill. While their dishes try their best to come across as authentic American, there's something just lacking about them. I can't quite identify it, but it's quite a subtle hint. I also find that their portions are not quite worth the price we pay for them.
An excellent ambience sets the mood, however, for an American dining experience. Whilst I find their prices a bit on the high side, I would recommend the root beer float and an order of their waffle with vanilla ice-cream for a light meal.
Party in your mouth
Frequently seen in areas populated by shoppers like Cathay Cineplex and the Central, Billy Bombers is a restaurant that serves up Authentic American food. Its signature dishes - Barbequed Buffalo Wings and the All Star burger – never fail to work your taste-buds out! My personal favourite is the cheese fries, which you would probably think that they are served like those at fast-food restaurants.
However, the cheese fries that come from Billy Bombers are served with hot cheese sauce, together with fries that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, which would literally melt in your mouth. The ambience and food is great, provided if you are willing to spend quite a lot of money on these!
Billy Bombers is really a classic American style restaurant. The interior is war-time era themed, cozy and well furnished. They also have a range of American food to choose from. Starting from appetizers like finger food with special dipping sauce, main course that could feed 2 and huge ice creams for desserts!
It is slightly on the expensive side. Each main course costs about $18 so if you were to include drinks and what-nots, it will total up to about $30 per person, excluding GST and service charge. However, due to their big portion size, you can actually share it with your friends to cut cost. ( Me and my mom have trouble finish 1 BBQ ribs meal because the portion is really big!)
If you are a fan of American food, then this restaurant is a must! They serves really delicious food and goes all the way out with their interior designing to give you the ultimate American Style Dining.
If you love classic American delicacies, you might want to give Billy Bombers a try. Serving you with a wide variety of steaks, chips and burgers, you would definitely be spoilt for choices. Apart from that, to give the diners an American dining experience, the restaurants are designed in contemporary American style.
From my personal experience, the best dish I had so far is the American Burger filled with large beef patty, cheese, and a generous amount of lettuce and its dressings. The portion is so huge that it can serve two pax.
Aside from that, the fish and chips is good but it didn't leave any huge impression on me. It tasted just as good as any others.
The menu could have provided the value set meals that consists of soup of the day, main course and drinks.
This restaurant is a good place to dine in during weekends. However, the price could range up to $20 and above for every set meals. For those who don't really fancy Western cuisines, you can give it a miss
If you want to try dining in Billy Bombers, try to avoid Friday and weekends evening. The restaurant could be crowded and you might have to wait in queue.
