When the first KRR was re-opened in Singapore I was the first in line. I grew up eating KRR in Malaysia and that was the best western food then. the chicken came in small portions and i barely tasted the marination, which was supposed to be infusing with herbs and black ground pepper. the side dishes was passable and the complimentary corn muffins was good. but the main dish has tarnished its reputation of the top roasts. even the roasting machines, slowly roasting the golden brown chickens, which was used to cause passer-bys to salivate was gone.
side dishes and corn muffin!
Kenny Rogers Roasters would be famous for their corn muffin (which is supposedly free, not shown on your bill but it is probably already covered by the extravagant prices of the rest of the dishes); which they serve to you while you wait for your dishes. I must say that it is very nice – not too sweet, and there actually is corn in it and refreshing.
Aside from that, I think their side dishes are also the best! Do take not of the extremely extreme prices, however. Nevertheless, if the prices are within your means do go ahead and enjoy yourself. Despite the prices, do not that they are called side dishes for a reason; they may taste delectable, but they come in very small proportions. I recommend their macaroni and cheese (although not very authentic, but still nice), cold pasta and garlic potato amongst many others.
I like Kenny Rogers because you can actually see their chicken being roasted in the chicken! It is quite interesting, I must say, That having said, their chicken is very authentic too! Despite being a little tough to chew and a little dry, the sauce of the chicken and being roasted at the right temperature just hits the right spot.
If you can afford it, eat it
Having work here before, i fully appreciate and understand how and why kenny rogers is successful, to a certain degree.
Firstly, the food is simple comfort food. their sides like mac and cheese, coleslaw and mash potato make excellent complementary dishes to just about any size or festivities. What I mean is that it is good to enjoy it yourself, with friends or in a huge group. My preference is however to eat it with a close friend. The meat choices to pick are definitely the ribs and the fish. I am not too fond or impressed by their chicken and how it is roasted over a very long time because I prefer the chicken moist and oily, which in this case is kind of dry. However, what they do not publicize does not mean that those food are no good to enjoy.
Regular clients will also advise things like queuing 30min to an hour ahead of time because securing a seat in hot spots like marina square, suntec city and great world city are extremely difficult. I have not seen a day be it weekday or weekend when I was working there that it is not packed before we open for the dinner shift. The concept was simple, provide simple enjoyable food which everyone sort of like. These includes things like pot pie which are a secret many regulars ask for again and again. These food are made to order so you do not have to worry about it being cold or dried out from cooking early and reheating it.
For me personally, my favourite set is ribs with fish, topped off with macaroni cheese with mash potato and if I somehow have some extra cash, a pot pie will be nice to share. The wonderful thing about this place is also the management structure. they seek to train and employ elderly and average IQ adults as a way to pay back to the community. So please be understanding and no screaming at anyone serving your food.
fun american diner
I love the ambience in the place as well as the music they play. I feel really hippy and happy!
Whenever I go to Kenny Rogers Roasters, I always order the Chicken Pot Pie. It is really creamy and chock full of ingredients. I also like the novelty of eating my soup bowl! The portions here are really big though, so I always share with friends especially since there are the complimentary corn muffins and 2 side dishes you can choose with each main course.
You would think corn in muffins would be a strange combination but these free corn muffins are really soft and totally worth paying for! It is also always a joy to choose from their many options of sides. This was my first experience with sides and they make the meal really worthwhile. A must-choose would be the mac&cheese!
Macaroni and cheese!
It's a fact: Everyone loves their macaroni and cheese, no arguments there. I could eat 2 big bowls of that alone. Apart from that, I also love their honey bourbon ribs. It tastes as good as it sounds.. Most of the time anyway. The sauce is perfect, but a couple of times the ribs were slightly overcooked, resulting in the meat being dry. But that was ok, for the macaroni and cheese made it up. Opinion on their complimentary muffin is divided; some of my friends like it, while others do not. Personally, it's alright especially when it's warm out of the oven, but after some bites you start to get tired of the taste.
If you have some cash to spare, you can always try Kenny Rogers, as it is not really a budget restaurant.
great macaroni and cheese
Kenny Rogers Roasters serves a range of main courses, side dishes and beverages. They also offer customers a complimentary corn muffin each. Personally, I do not really like the corn muffin as it is a little dry and flaky, but majority of my friends seem to enjoy them and are very glad for me to give up my share to them.
I usually stick to my usual quarter chicken meal, and request for the drumstick part. The chicken meat is tender and easy to peel off the bone. At times, I will order the pork ribs set meal, but it is rather expensive. Each meal comes with two additional sides, and I will choose the macaroni and cheese and mashed potatos. The fries are average and they do go well with the mashed potato sauce. Also, it is possible to request for a refill of the sauce. The sweet corn is nice as well, although it really is just a whole bowl of corn and it will get rather boring after a few mouthfuls.
There is rarely a crowd at Kenny Rogers Roasters, perhaps due to the prices of the items. This is probably a place that I will visit when I am craving for macaroni and cheese, as the food is just slightly above average and not worth the price.
Overly expensive roast chicken
Its moist, its succulent, its tasty, its yummy, its truly roast chicken done well.
But despite all that positive feelings towards their food, i have to say: it’s over priced. Honestly speaking, I wouldn’t step into Kenny Rogers in Singapore unless I am feeling too rich with too much money to spare. I just simply don’t see how a quarter a roast chicken and a couple of side dishes is worth $16, and not even large enough to share.
If you really must settle a roast chicken craving, there are so many other better places to choose from. If you’re on a budget, do what I do; just head down to cold storage and get a whole roasted chicken. Though slightly dryer (and really only slightly), the flavour and the juiciness of the meat is in no way inferior to the one they serve at Kenny Rogers. And its so much cheaper too! Just think, a whole chicken at less than $10, compared to what i mentioned above, side dishes shouldn’t cost that much should they?
Ok, so maybe I shouldn’t be comparing a restaurant with a supermarket, but there are many other roast chicken restaurants out there that offer something similar, if not more.
Great meal,Great service
I dined in here twice, at different place and I got the same dining satisfaction from both restaurants. Kenny Rogers is popular with its roasted chicken at its original flavour.
For the second time of dining in ( at Novena Square outlet) , I was welcomed by friendly staffs with a plate of delicious hot muffin. I assumed it was complimentary. As there was not a lot of diners in there, I was able to choose which seat location I'm more comfortable with. There were some spots well lit up and some others were pretty dimmed.
I ordered the Roasted Chicken accompanied by two side dishes which is baked beans and potato salad. The service was quick and I was able to enjoy the food in less than 10 minutes after making the order.
The two side dishes that I ordered came in big portions and I have to say that it was a satisfying meals that I had.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who has big appetite and meat lovers. Just for information, they do serve other main course apart from roasted chicken, such as spaghetti.
On average, the meal is affordable and I estimate the cost per pax is less than $20.
Must try , Kenny roger muffin!
If you mention Kenny rogers to your classmates and friends , they will immediately tell you that Kenny rogers chicken is the best. However, if people ever do consult me, i will say that their muffin is the best. Always I would only patronize Kenny Rogers just for the their muffin and pasta. I would recommend the muffin because it is freshly baked everyday with a variety of flavors to choose from too! Golden Vanilla Muffin, Banana Raisin Muffin and Chocolate Raisin Muffin. My favorite is the Golden Vanilla Muffin, the most authentic flavor and its also their best seller.
On the other hand, i personally thinks that their pasta taste better than the chicken. Especially Mac And Cheese Unlike normal cheese you taste outside, it offers a more high quality kind of cheese. Every bite of it provides a wholesome of cheese and freshly baked pasta .It is definitely a must to try for a cheese lover like me. *Thumbs Up*. A must try for cheese lover!
My experience of eating roast chicken there was disappointing. Their famous chicken was not t like what people described. The roast chicken breast i ate was so dry and tough that i would not recommend it to anybody. At first , i thought it was because of the slow service in the store, that resulted in my chicken being cold. Hoping that it would be better, i gave another try and requested for a thigh. It's not even juicy and the chicken was still dry and tough like the chicken breast served to me, previously. I'm a fan of roast chicken and i personally favor more in Nando's grilled chicken
Average chicken, good mac & cheese
I went to Kenny Rogers in high hope that their chicken was good and tasty. After all, it's being marketed as such, right? I am not a fan of roast chicken as the many I've had were dry. The only thing I like about roast chicken is the skin! My friend and I decided to try Kenny Rogers Roasters one evening as we have ran out of places to eat nearby. The restaurant was quite crowded but service was good, we were ushered to our seats as soon as the waiter noticed us.
They served us corn muffins and I've never tasted them before, so I am not sure how it is supposed to taste like. I thought it was quite nice but the muffin was larger than your average-sized muffins so I only ate it halfway. Anything more than that would be too sweet and overwhelming. We ordered half a chicken and two side dishes, mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. We also ordered ala-carte side dishes with consists of rice and boiled vegetables.
When the chicken arrived, it was small and not satisfying at all! The meat was tasty but dry. I was so disappointed with the chicken considering I had high hopes for it. I didn't eat much of the chicken but I LOVED the mac & cheese! It's so creamy, cheesy and sinful. So good! That's the only thing that I really recommend from there. The rice tasted like it had something weird added into it, I don't know what it is and it tasted really weird to me. Boiled vegetables were a little undeercooked and I still could taste the rawness of the broccoli and carrot chunks. The total bill was $50 for both of us and it was a bad meal to pay for that price.
