My ma'am just loves bringing cupcakes from The Dispensary (reasons unknown) to office. Not to say that it is a bad thing, since we benefit greatly from the free afternoon snack. If you should take your time to savour the cupcakes, you will generally find that it is a cut above the rest.
At the first sight, my impression was that it was cakes filled to the brim with cream and just a thin crust in between. At the first bite, however, the cream is rich, fulfilling and almost certainly fattening, the crust is delicious as well. There is a savoury sweetness like flowers bursting into bloom as your teeth and saliva works through the crumbs. The main cake and the cream, in my opinion, goes well together and that is precisely what makes for a good cupcake.
Moreover, the flavours are delectable and wide-ranging, with flavours tagged with unorthodox names such as 'death by oreo' , 'nuts for nutella'. According to the name, the cream and the cupcake itself matches in a mixture of mouth pleasing taste and textures.
Absolutely wonderful, as well as a reminder for me to watch my food intake!
The Dispensary is located at the old Tiong Bahru estate area which is home to the popular 40 Hands and Tiong Bahru Bakery. The shop used to be a traditional chinese medicine shop and when the current owner took over the place, the traditional cabinets were kept! It gives the entire shop a different and more unique vibe as compared to its nearby competitors. I visited the place on a weekday night with 2 of my friends and we ordered 2 cakes to share (dessert after our satisfying meal at Two Faced - do check this place out!). We ordered a red velvet cupcake and a slice of cheesecake.
The cakes were good! The cupcake was light in texture and intense in flavor. The amount of cream cheese icing on top was smooth, dense and nice. The cheescake was great too! It's a no-bake cheesecake and I really like the smoothness and density of the cheese flavor in the cake. The graham base was crispy and fresh as well! We sat at the rooftop open area at level 2 and if you're going there at night, I would recommend you to sit there instead of the indoor seating area. The outdoor rooftop area was windy and relaxing to sit at at night. We sat all the way till 10+pm. Highly recommended!
