Affordable among the rest
Having a store located in the heart of Orchard Road, the Charlie Brown Cafe not only provide hungry diners a cheaper dining experience, but also one with the same great quality. The interior and exterior of the store would attract young children and even Peanuts fans in.
I came here awhile back, when I was out with my friends for a day of shopping. After much shopping, we found ourselves to be a little hungry and very thirsty. We did not have much cash left on us, and was struggling to find a place around 313 to sit down and have a snack. My friend spontaneously suggested the Charlie Brown Cafe, as she spotted it from the corner of her eye.
The cafe was not crowded, and the service was efficient. We were served our food and drinks pretty quickly, and had a satisfying and thirst-quenching afternoon snack. It was great!
for snoopy fans only!
I was dragged to the Charlie Brown Cafe (located near the side entrance of 313) by my friend who was a big fan of Snoopy. Though the exterior of the restaurant did not appeal to me, I decided to give in to my friend and tried their coffee and lasagna.
To my utmost disappointment, both tasted way below standard and they were not cheap too! Even the big fan of Snoopy was upset by the food. The coffee was bland and the lasagna tasted worse than those on most of the airlines (not that I am a picky customer).
Nevertheless, the place was well decorated with characters of Peanut Strip Comic. It was also very well-ventilated. I felt that it could really be a great chill-out place if the standard of the F&B improves!
I brought my younger cousin here because she is a total fan of Snoopy. She was jumping all around the shop when she reached, snapping photos with the statues, viewing the mini sales display/ gallery in envy.
We proceeded to order our food. I ordered the baked chicken wings with rice and for her aglio olio. My baked wings portion was small, but at least it came as promised in the picture. The wings were alright but the rice was a little dry. My cousin's pasta was badly done. It did not have the oily texture but was extremely dry and bland. Is the chef trying to cut cost by saving on the sauces? Well, bad news for him because even my younger cousin realises she's tasting poorly done food in a snoopy haven.
The staff were genuinely nice but had room for improvement. There was only one staff outdoors (all seats are outdoors, the kitchen, cake counter, cashier and merchandise display was indoors) and he asked us to order at awkward timings and reacted in an even more awkward way. But at least he was hardworking enough to stay outside to look after the guests. I was ready to lash out at 4 waiters giggling away when i proceeded indoors to make payment but there were so bubbly. They were commenting on my name (written on my credit card) that there was a popular song about it and all the staff (including the chefs) started to dramatically sing it, grabbing random items as microphones. They were so adorable and conversational but the fact remains that better service is needed.
Personally I feel that Charlie Brown is just overpriced and overrated. The food has nothing special about it and the price for it is just too unreasonable. Example like a plate of pasta costs $12 itself without a drink or anything. It's just a small bowl of pasta, not filling at all and the food can be cold times!
Other than the unreasonable pricing, the ambience of the cfe is actually pretty nice, with snoopy cartoon characters decorating the tables and walls. However when it rains, Charlie Brown isn't such a great place to be at as the most of the seats are out in the un-air conditioned area.
Cute cafe but mediocre food
Charlie Brown Cafe at Somerset 313 is a small cafe with outdoor seating. It can get rather warm on a humid day. The concept of the cafe is pretty cute and I am sure all snoopy lovers will appreciate is very much! The decor, tables and even the menu has snoopy pictures on it. However, the food was mediocre. I ordered a spaghetti bolognese which I felt, could have been better given its price. The sauce was watery and diluted and the spaghetti was too hard, as though it wasn't cooked long enough. The drinks were rather expensive too.
In all, I felt that dining at Charlie Brown Cafe was interesting and cute but I don't think I will patronize the shop again for its food.
Simple concept and decent food
I have been to Charlie Brown Cafe a few times already, mostly for lunch. They have a lunch time promotion that includes a soup, drink, or ice-cream, or all three (for a higher price). They also have breakfast items that can be ordered at any time of the day, if you would like pancakes or crepes for a later meal.
There is this unique dish called the Charlie Brown Chicken Rice which fuses our local delicacy with a dash of westernized culture, and it tastes GOOD. I guess you could say that their rice and chili are more on the local side, and the chicken is more on the western. Their chicken is juicy and tender, and the whole dish is just full of flavour. Definitely a must try!
The spaghetti bolognaise sauce is a little bit watery, but it is still not too bad. Crepes and pancakes are not bad. Light and tasty, and come in various flavours. They also have the different characters' faces on 'imprinted' onto the pancakes and crepes, which is really cool. Should be worth a try!
A must for snoopy lover
By chance when I’m scrolling along gmarket, I came across a coupon for the Charlie brown café. Without much thinking, I purchased it since it does look quite appealing to me, as I’m a lover for snoopy. Therefore, the moment I saw this coupon, I got extremely excited! Of course, I couldn’t wait to visit them too.
I went there with my friends, they bought the coupon too (under my influenced, I guess). The concept of the store totally makes my heart melt, it is full of snoopy toys, pictures and lastly a cozy environment made of wood. My friends all were busy snapping a photo of them with the Charlie brown figurine out the café. The tables individually have different snoopy character on it.
The menu also gave me little surprised. The menu is also with snoopy, provided a pencil for you to write on too. I ordered ham baked rice, I think (not good memory). The ham were given with a quite generously. Cheese was sizzling hot, coated on top of the rice and ham, the aroma was good!
Drinks were also given in a little cute Charlie brown printed cup. So cute that I almost bring it home after that.
They also sell pizza, which were nice too. Overall, the food served is in high quality. I liked it a lot, personally. Given another chance, I would still patronize it again! However, the shop is placed out-door. Not recommended to patronize when the sun is piping hot, preferably during a windy day. So you can fully indulge yourself in the snoopy world with your yummy foodies.
Definitely a must to go for snoopy’s lover!!
A small cafe tucked in between the shortcut that links 313 and H&M, it might not be too noticeable. Maybe you have seen it a couple of times but never stopped by to take a second look at it or rest your feet there. I have walked past it many times and one weekend, my friend and I decided to check out the place! We chose a small round table and ordered lava cake and a pizza to share. The pizza is huge and filled both of us up easily! There was 1 remaining piece left after we were both filled. The lava cake was warm inside and there was a snoopy stenciled with icing sugar on it. Thumbs up for the cafe's effort to stick to the theme. In my opinion, if a theme cafe doesn't stick to its theme, then the whole point would be lost. After all, people visit themed cafes mainly for its theme right? Food comes second in such cases but this cafe serves surprisingly delectable food as compared to other themed cafe/restaurants.
In this cafe, not only the food sticks to the theme, the decor sticks to it as well. I see customized furniture printed with the various Snoopy characters. They even have Snoopy comics and cartoon books for you to relive your childhood memories or occupy your little ones with!
I would recommend this place for a cosy gathering on a rainy day. Reason being is due to the fact that the seats are outdoor (al-fresco dining, anyone?) and if you go there on a hot day which Singapore is notorious for delivering recently, you might feel sweaty and disturbed by the heat. Enjoyment level reduced. We all know what the sweltering heat can do to us. So, drop by during a windy day or rainy day or simply when the sun sets!
Above expectation if you do not bring your hopes too high
My first impression of Charlie Brown cafe was a sceptical one as the concept of "Charlie Brown" is originated from comics/cartoons rather than food. However, the food they served taken me by surprise as it was above my expectation.
My partner and I were pretty much attracted to the interior design of the cafe. The tables are really unique and interesting looking with the different characters of Charlie Brown carved on the tables! All in all, it was something different from the usual cafe tables.
My partner and I order beef pizza ($8) and a snoopy chocolate fudge cake which was really adorable! The beef pizza tasted normal but quality was not too bad. Furthermore, the portion was quite huge considering the fact that it was only $8. As for the chocolate fudge cake (if I am not wrong, it should be $5), it was not so fabulous but the prices for cakes are considered pretty steep. But if you're attracted to the cute little designs of snoopy, woodstock etc which are so called "engraved" the cakes, why not give it a try?
I would recommend this place for people who want to chill out and do not consider food as an important factor. I would also recommend this place for kids because the interior design definitely would capture any kid's attention. Charlie brown cafe is also selling merchandises such as snoopy cushion, snoopy mug and so on, so anyone can consider buying a gift from there for they have really cute snoopy paper bags as well!
The ambiance's great, more suited for a chill out causal meal.
Charlie Brown Café was located at the Discovery Walk linking to 313 Somerset and it is a one-of-its-kind in Singapore. As the name implies, it features Charlie Brown and its friends, Snoopy, Woodstock, etc, giving a slight fusion to the cuisines that they served. It was rather interesting for both the young and old, to see a picture of Snoopy on your piece of cake or your drink. I would say that this is a great place for tea-time snacks, and of course, a fun time for young kids and adults alike.
I have experienced my first tea-time dining with Charlie Brown Café and I loved the interior concept at the café. It gives me a cooling and a break from the ever crowded Orchard Road and probably the feeling of being in one of the cafes at Botanic Gardens. I have tried Oreo Cheese cake and American Cheese Cake, however, I find it tad too sweet to my liking. Though they stated freshly-baked cakes daily, this led me wondering whether the cakes have been kept for a day or two after I noticed the fading of the Snoopy character on the cake.
What put most of their customers off is the pricing on their menu. For a slice of Cheese cake, $7.80 might be comparable to Secret Recipe and TCC. There are better cakes out in other cafes all around Singapore!
