Stop to start your healthy diet
Salad Stop is a really convenient salad bar to get dinner on your way home. They have many outlets around town so there's always one within reach. If you are going to eat it regularly, download the Perx app to collect stamps.
You usually pick a salad bowl size and mix and match the ingredients. But if you are in a rush, you could also choose one of the salads on the menu. Salad Stop has a wide variety of fresh leaves so your salad won’t get bored. You pay extra for premium leaves like Rocket, but it's worth the price. The meats like chicken and prawn are expensive though.
The salad sauce is packed in a separate box from your salad, so your salad won’t be soggy when you get home. They always give so much salad sauce, I only need half a packet most of the time.
Soo good, but pricey!
I love me some salad, especially after a hard day at the gym. Nothing fills me up and makes me feel absolutely amazing like completing a hard core gym session with a salad. So when I used to go to California Fitness at Ngee Ann City, I used to always hit up Salad Stop after for my salad fix.
I must say I really do love the variety they have at Salad Stop. No two salads that I've purchased from here have been the same, although I do stick to some staple ingredients which I can't go without like chickpeas yummy yummy. There's also a whole variety of salad dressing from creamy to light to spicy to mild, basically anything you could ever want. The staff also provide really amazing service, and always let me try a dressing before I commit to anything!
Only complaint really is the price tag on the salads. Kind of sucks that trying to eat healthy is so expensive because maybe (just maybe) if it were cheaper more people would do it.
Fact: salads cost more than hamburgers.
I have no answer to the age-old question why healthier food options cost more than a Big Mac. But I can tell you SaladStop! is a lovely place, if you are a salad junkie with deeper pockets than the average person looking for a meal fix. Admittedly, they are no food supplier to the heartlands, that much is clear when you look at all their outlets scattered around the CBD.
I love a good salad bowl from SaladStop! on days when I feel generous, and nonchalant about spending $15 on greens. On such days I justify my purchase by stroking my satiated belly and reminisce on how good those cajun shrimps tasted. Said shrimps also cost me an extra $3. If you still need reasons to make it easier for you, take heart in the friendly and nice salad servers. I've never encountered anyone who's served or made my salad with a sour face. Even across outlets they remain friendly and chatty with their customers.
It is a learned experience though, understanding how the line of order works can be a little bit intimidating. Out of laziness and also a fear of being judged (I'd assume a class of salad eaters chastising me for not knowing how to appreciate arugula) I went for the classic Caesar the first few times I was there. It is undoubtedly more fun to make your own though, just know that most salad places offer premium ingredients at additional prices. So don't drool over the smoked salmon and hope that a free flow is included in your basic salad combo.
Great variety of fresh ingredients
I frequent the outlet at the Capitol Tower near Raffles Place often and I have to say that I love how generous the servers are with their toppings. I usually have the Create-Your-Own salad ($9.90), where you're able to choose 10 toppings and 1 dressing from the huge range of toppings available. How worth it is that?! What's more, you may also top up for premium toppings like smoked salmon, tuna and beef! All the ingredients are freshly made daily and I am never disappointed with the freshness of my delicious salad bowl. It may just be a salad but it is sure a hearty and filling meal on its own!
After tossing your ingredients for you (you may specify how fine you would like your salad leaves to be chopped), the salad artists will also include a really yummy breadstick in your bowl.
I also love how they have their own self-made cakes and healthy treats. The acai banana cake is really moist and not too cloyingly sweet, while the fig bar is another great choice if you're looking for a smaller snack!
Do beware if you are going around lunchtime though, the place is usually teeming with office people between 12 to 2pm and the queues may get really long!
A healthier choice!
SaladStop is my choice for a meal when I am feeling particularly health conscious. I am not a fan of salads in general because I feel like a cow eating vegetables raw, but I do not feel that way about the salads at SaladStop.
It could be the combination of vegetables and other ingredients that goes into the bowl of salad that makes the salad feel like a wholesome meal of nutritious goodness than just a bowl of raw greens. I have never tried the wrap option so I am not able to comment on it. Also, the bowl of salad has a comforting effect on the stomach and is something I naturally crave when I am not feeling too good or just too hungover from the night before. Beware though, that a bowl of greens can set you back by quite a fair bit.
Pick to your heart's content!
But beware of the wallet and the appetite. The prices are a tad pricey but omygoodness the food is SO good. My virgin experience was not too long ago when my friend brought me to try out the outlet at Velocity. Initially I wasn't too enthusaistic upon having salads for dinner but upon stepping in and seeing the wide array of food to choose and order from, I was enticed.
We ordered a wrap to share and my oh my the wraps were OH-SO-HUGE. like FAT. Imagine 2 subway wraps combined together. The wrap was bursting with ingredients. We ordered extra pumpkin soup which is by far, the BEST pumpkin soup I've ever taken. Even she said so too. A small bowl for 4+ bucks too expensive? Wait till you take the first sip. You'll be hooked. You'll take back your words.
The acai berry smoothie was really good too, thick and flavorful you can tell they didn't skimp on the ingredients nor bulked it with ice or other cheaper substitutes.
Will so be coming back again.
I really like the fact that you can customise your salads and select the ingredients you want to make the 'perfect' salad. The variety of ingredients and condiments offered is pretty extensive too and I'm often spoilt for choice.
My only gripe is the cost which is a little high considering that the raw ingredients aren't very costly. I would also give the meats a miss from here as the few pieces of meat doesn't warrant the extra cost.
I've tried Salad Stop a few times and the salads are very filling and have never disappointed me. They are especially ideal for a healthy and hearty meal.
The mango yogurt here is okay too-it tastes like normal yogurt-nothing exceptional or rave-worthy.
Healthy, good food...but expensive
If you want to have fast food and eat clean at the same time, SaladStop! is the perfect choice for you. To begin with, it is located conveniently in various prime locations such as Takashimaya and Citylink mall. On top of that, because all the ingredients are ready made, the order takes about less than five minutes to prepare on the spot. So just grab and go!
I tried the Go Geisha and Big Bird, both of which are on their signature salads/wraps menu on the two occasions that I patronized the salad bar. Personally, I prefer the Big Bird to Go Geisha because the latter is vegetarian and I am especially fond of the roast turkey cubes and avocado bits in the Big Bird salad. Nevertheless, both were delicious.
I also liked the fact that they indicated which salads contain ingredients with antioxidants for health conscious customers, and also those which contain nuts, just in case any one is allergic to them.
However, SaladStop! is a tad expensive for me, considering the fact that the dish was 70% lettuce and 30% of the other ingredients that I most look forward to.
This is definitely a no-no for meat lovers and big eaters, but it is perfect for vegetarians, healthy eaters or just anyone who wants to eat clean for the day.
