Great place for fries!
I've heard rave reviews about the brunch menu here but never had the chance to try it out until my friend celebrated her birthday there.
The concept of having food, retail and art under one roof was new to me, but I appreciated the fact that works of local artists are displayed for public enjoyment and for sale. We don't really have much of these around in Singapore.
Foodwise, we ordered the Truffle Fries with Kelp and Parmesan ($12) to share. The aroma of the truffle oil was just right without being overpowering. Served with sprinkles of seaweed bits, the truffle fries here are easily one of the better ones around.
My friend ordered the Chicken Milanese Wrap ($16) and I was surprised to see that it came with curly fries! The curly fries were deep fried till golden brown, and were of the right flavour to immediately transport me back to the days when A&W reigned.
The Eggs Royale ($17) were average, but I was surprised to find that the brioche didn't succumb to the moisture from the stack of sauteed spinach, poached egg and Hollandaise sauce.
The 'De' Breakfast ($17) was slightly disappointing though. The pancakes were fluffy but tasted subtly of flour.
While I'll skip the other pancake options, I'll definitely return for the fries.
Chanced upon SPR MRKT when I was visiting a friend in the CBD area. We were there pretty early on a weekday afternoon, say 11am and the tiny cafe is partially crowded. The menu is pretty limited but we decided to make do. It wasn't a bad choice after all.
SPR MRKT has a daily special menu and on that day, it was the burger. We ordered that, a serving of truffle fries to share and a salad too. The truffle fries came first and we were pleasantly surprised to see bits of truffles sprinkled around the fries. The smell was heavenly too. It was so good and addictive! Easily one of the better truffle fries I've had. The serving size was pretty good for sharing too. The burger came next and it looked really impressive with a huge piece of patty and a fried egg on top as well. The burger turned out to be superb! From the buns all the way to the patty, egg and sauce. The beef patty was juicy and soft while the buns were toasted just right. We were so disappointed to see this dish only available on one day of the week. They should put it on their menu!
Overall, it was a nice place for lunch and a quick catch up with my office lady friend. Not too sure if they've changed the menu already but I certainly hope they would include the burger in their menu.
I find this shop extremely unique, for it's dining and shopping experience all in one place. I guess this concept is not common in Singapore, but probably common in European countries, and it was nice to find something like this here in this tiny island.
The one time I came here, I was just accompanying my friend as she had to buy some cutlery from the store. The interior of the store was minimalistic and had a modern look. It seemed like a good place to catch-up over a meal with friends, and the food that I saw while walking around looked tantalizing to the taste buds. I wouldn't definitely come here for the food soon, and also for the ambiance.
Food and retail under one roof
Enter SPR MRKT and you will be welcomed by its minimalistic décor, which would calm your senses at once. This is a good spot away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and its quiet ambiance is maintained through the limited number of seats. Other than offering just food, the SPR MRKT experience also includes a shopping element — you can find products like alcohol and cutlery.
The pork ribs and fries were the highlight of my meal, as the tenderness of ribs leaves you wanting for more. A friend and I also split the mashed potatoes — a $7 portion is reasonably sized. I enjoyed my visit thoroughly and would revisit again for sure.
