The thing that attracted me to try Robert Timms was the GIANT macaron that they sell at their store. I have never seen such a huge macaron before and I had to get one. Robert Timms carry macaron flavours that are more exotic that what you will find at Canele and Laduree. There is a premium range of alcoholic flavors, floral-ish flavors and the usual chocolate/mint kinda flavors. It is advisable to share this macaron with 2 or 3 people though because I cannot imagine finishing one whole huge macaron by myself, it will be way too "gelat"
We bought a whisky flavored one to share. The outer-shell was a little dry, matte and flat instead of having a shine. There were quite a lot of bumps and grittiness on it as well. The shell had feet though! so I guess that's okay. The huge size would mean that there's a lot of filling. The whole macaron was generally chewy, sticky and sweet with just a hint of whiskey flavor. So if you are afraid it will be bitter, fret not!!! They also have cakes and a range of desserts as well so if macaron is not your thing, you can always try their desserts! In general, the macaron was not impressive and just bordering on avaerage. I won't be going back anytime soon for their giant macaron though... the only reason why I tried it was because of my curiosity!! I will still go back to Canele for my macaron fix.
The House of Robert Timms offers a selection of unique food including kangaroo and crocodile meat as it is an australian themed restaurant. It is a great place to hang out as the ambience is peaceful and there are both outdoor and indoor seats at the wheelock place outlet.
They occasionally have a 1-for-1 main course offer which should be fully taken advantage of to get the best value for money!
Recommended dishes include the Salmon gratin, roasted chicken and wraps. This restaurant is also well known for its coffee and all day breakfasts. Servings are always large hence it is recommended to share with a friend!
They serve pasta, breakfast items, and American fare of decent quality. Desserts are not too bad either. I enjoyed their lamingtons. It's not the most popular place to have breakfast or brunch at so it's usually quite empty, even though it's located in the middle of the busy street between Orchard and Somerset. They do have one-for-one every now and then, so be sure to look out for that!
Not too bad
I once had coffee at House of Robert Timms near somerset as I was stuck in a heavy downpour. I really appreciated their hot cup of latte at that time. I was pleasantly surprised with their coffee art. Though it's only a simple flower, I couldn't bear to stir my cup of coffee, fearing that it would ruin the pretty flower. I am sure that they are able to do other different kind of coffee artwork upon request.
I tried their new york cheesecake too. The serving is pretty huge and the cake has a nice tinge of lemon flavoring to it. Though the prices might be on a high side, they do have 1 for 1 promotions during the Great Singapore Sale period. Even then, the cafe is still pretty quiet and conducive for a good and quiet afternoon.
Coffee there is great!
I really love the coffee/ latte/ frappe there because it is really pretty in all sorts of shapes like a teddy bear shape! The dessert there are tasty too.
I went there twice. The first time I tried their sandwich and it was pretty filling with a lot of ingredients within it. The criss cross fries were not bad too. The second time, I tried the spaghetti and I felt that it was not bad too.
The cafe is quite quiet too even on Sundays, so if you are finding a quiet cafe in the busy streets of Orchard, why not try this out? Prices may be a little expensive but it does have 1 for 1 promotions sometimes so I will definitely go again when there is one! :D
