Me and my girlfriends came here on the promise of cheap food.
We were not disappointed.
For a place so classy, we expected the prices to be just as classy too. But in a nice turn of events, the prices were reasonable and we ordered without thinking. Ah the short-lived intelligence of hungry girls.
We ordered a grilled chicken with rice and salad to share (we were on a diet) and 2 bowls of soup (healthy calories are friends not foes) and their mousse and apple pie (our diet went out of the window).
And my god were the food good.
(side-note: as mentioned, we were not smart and chose to sit outside because it seemed lovely to eat outdoors. it was not. we were a better meal to the mosquitoes than pitchstop's courses were to us. so please do not follow in our sad footsteps.)
The grilled chicken was excellent. The mashes potatoes are a league of their own. It is hard to keep up a classy smile when you're sneakily trying to snatch more portions than your fellow greedy mates.
But what sealed the deal was their apple pie.
I don't like apple pie.
But their crust is the stuff my culinary dreams are made of.
It was crunchy yet chewy, plain yet flavorful, it made McDonald's apple pie look like a n00b and I am glad to be alive for that taste.
Will be coming back.
Service was excellent because 1) a nice waitress moved our half-eaten meal to the air conditioned part of the place after we got bitten to death and 2) the counter guy said my eyes are lovely heh heh ohhhh (shy)
good quality and affordable food!
Pitchstop is a great place to dine at if you are in NTU. This place serves good quality food with an affordable price tag. My usual orders when I go there with my friends would be the pepperoni woodfire pizza, carbornara, aglio olio, complete with sets (add $1.50 for a small bowl of cream soup and a glass of drink).
Even with a set, the total for an individual would not hit $12. It can be as low as $6, depending on what you order. The turkey bacon carbonara has a very nice mild smokey taste and as with all creamy food items, I would suggest you to share it. Otherwise, it could get too 'gelat'. The aglio olio was spot on. Not too spicy, not too garlic-ky. The portions for both pastas are HUGE. I can safely say that 2 portions of pasta can fill up the hunger of 4 girls. The pizza was made on-the-spot. You can see the woodfire oven. Really authentic and fresh.
Service wise, it was quick and hassle-free. You fill up the order form on the table and pay at the cashier. It was peak hour the last time I went there and it took no more than 10 minutes for the soup, drink and pasta to arrive. The pizza took longer but it is understandable because it is made from scratch. Overall, great place to dine at. Pocket friendly for students without compromising on the quality and quantity.
Best Aglio Olio in NTU
Unlike other cafes in NTU, Pitchstop has been well patronized by students and staff members alike. Despite being located behind a building, many students go to Pitchstop for its affordable western cuisine and alcohol. The downside is that during lunch hours, there is always a long queue, and there may not be vacant tables even with benches outside the cafe.
Nonetheless, I love Pitchstop for its $6 aglio olio, made with linguine instead of the conventional spaghetti. The portion served is big, and the best part about it must be the spiciness. Also, it is not too greasy. I could have it everyday. I also liked their Fish & Wedges set. At $10.50, it is a tad expensive. But they made up for it in terms of portion. The fried battered fish was huge and it came with wedges and garden salad. You could also top up any main dish by $1.50 for a bowl of soup and a drink. Very worth it in my opinion.
The pizza that they serve is freshly baked from the oven. There is always a long waiting time for the pizza. I didn't really fancy it because there is too little meat and I prefer the crust to be crunchy. Many of the students are all praise for the pizza though. So if you happen to be a fan of soft and thin crust, no harm giving it a try!
A pint in school is always refreshing!
Having tried all the canteen food in NTU, I was very delighted with the birth of PitchStop. I like the concept of the cafe/bar. It offers both indoors and outdoors seating. The food is nothing too fanciful but the service is always good! I never fail to see smiles on the staff and I feel welcome every time I stepped into the cafe/bar.
This is a great chill out place for friends. The beers are on tap and the price is affordable! Though the location of the cafe/bar is a little secluded, I still dont mind making my way there to enjoy a pint or two with my friends. (:
NTU's best kept secret
I loved the pizza at Pitchstop Cafe! They have their own variety of pizza, such as weird names like 'hamburger'pizza which is just pure decadence. This pizza has oil and cheese dripping off the sides as you bite into it.
The ambiance there is lovely too, there is a small stage for bands to jam in and a screen that shows MTVs for your pleasure. After a studying, I would head there with friends to chill out, or we would sit outside by two water fountains and just enjoy the cool night breeze!
Furthermore, they also serve beers on an Eiffel Tower tap for you to have fun with, and the service there is better compared to other more expensive cafes around Singapore. To me, it is the best managed cafe in NTU.
Great pizza over here!
The unique oven baked pizza was great although waiting time was rather long. However, the staff were friendly and even apologised for the long waiting time. Seats were rather hard to find too and my friends and I had to wait for roughly 20 mins. However ambience was nice with comfortable sofa seats. The salad and soup of the day were quite tasty too. The chocolate truffle cake I tried was awesome. I totally loved the cake and do not mind going back to get more of it! Besides pizza, there is spaghetti too!
A good place to sit and talk while having pizza and taking photos. However, if you are in a rush, you should not go there. It is hard to find seats for big groups too.
