Great Chicken Pie
Brimming with many ingredients from potato to chicken to even half an egg, Don's chicken pie is definitely a pie you won't forget. It's pastry is quite crispy and the fillings just smoothly slide down your throat.
Despite costing, $6 per pie, one alone is enough to fill your stomach.
However, despite of it's tastiness, I would like to comment that if one consume the same flavor of pie every single week, it's no doubt that they will get bored and sick of it.
I haven't tasted a better pie ever since I had Don's. The pastry is only slightly crisp so it wouldn't be a mess after you take a bite. The fillings are soft and chewy. Somehow, their pies have a unique taste to it that makes me want to have it again and again.
The prices may seem a little hiked up but it's definitely worth a try. Plus the pies look small, but they aren't really as small as they seem. It will fill your tummy.
To non-veggie lovers though, it might be a little unappealing. I have a friend who hates the tinge of veg she tastes. She says it's a little bitter. I don't get that, but I'm not against veg though.
best chicken pie I've ever had!
Don undoubtedly serves the best chicken pie I have ever tasted. The pastry is very slightly crisp and flaky on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside, yet not too thick or greasy.
The chicken bits are generous, very juicy and flavourful, while the potatoes and vegetables are mild in flavour and complements the chicken well. They give me the impression that the pie is rather healthy, too.
I usually share the pie with family as the portions are really generous, quite impossible to finish alone! So far, I've only tried the classic black pepper chicken pie - it's so good, it's difficult to bring ourselves to buy anything else - but I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the pies they offer as well.
Amazing Melt in your mouth pie with Tasty ingredients
Who would have ever though that a Pie shop can make it so big? While I'm spoilt for choices with other pie shops that have started up more recently, such as Pie Kia, I'd have to say that Don will remain as my Pie stop.
What determines a good pie is exemplified by Don's Pies. While other pies that I've tried look good on the outside, the ingredients inside are not as delectable as Don's. Don's pies are not only delectable, the crust looks crispy and fried. Upon consumption, however, the crispy crust crumbles and melts in my mouth; the crust breaking up into soft flakes that makes it easier to consume. The ingredients on the other hand, are not too hard: the potatoes are mashed but to the right amount, the pieces although mashed can still be chewed.
Together, the soft, warm crust and the nicely made ingredients make the perfect pie. What else can I say? There's just nothing that can compete with this pie. The money I spend on this pie is definitely worth every cent.
Changed my opinion on pies
I have always had the preconceived notion that pies were just a snack, comparable to a muffin. But just one serving of Don's pie raised the bar so high I doubt I will find any other pie-shop in Singapore that could surpass its standards.
One "small" pie costs only $6, and it would definitely be enough for a meal. Moreover, it is also nutritional, with a variety of vegetable packed into the pie along with meaty pieces of chicken, giving you your money's worth.
My favourite would have to be the black pepper chicken pie. The slightly spicy flavour is balanced out by the light crust, making it extremely savoury.

iDon personal pie club is the place to go to when you are craving high quality pies. They honor themselves in producing drool-worthy pies and have received loads of media attention and awards for their pies. It is not hard to understand why they are so popular! Their pies are really one of the better ones I have had. On my first trip there, I was recommended their best selling pie - the chicken pie. It looked and smelled so great, I took out $18.90 for the whole pie without even bother to try it by buying a small slice. I am so glad that I bought this pie home because my family and I absolutely loved it!
The pie crust was buttery, layered and flaky. It was able to hold the pie well and not break despite it being layered and light. It wasn't the typical thick floury factory-made crust that you see outside. The filling was rich and substantial. There were potato, corn, boiled eggs, mushrooms and chicken chunks. The filling had a tasty and mild peppery taste. The whole pie came together as one. The filling and the crust. 1/4 slice of it is sufficient as a wholesome meal. The box that came with it was also of good quality, thick and will definitely protect your pie well. I would definitely be back there for another pie flavor!
Yeah, it's just right. But no better.
I bought their chicken pie after staring at all their awards and reviews pasted at their outlet in VIvocity. The pie wasn't as fantastic as I had expected it to be, but that could have probably been due to the fact that my expectations were raised to a sky high.
On a more balanced note, I would have to say that their chicken pie was okay. It was good, but it wasn't too good, it was relatively generous with the fillings (unlike chains like polar or prima deli which contain a measely chunk of what I presume to be chicken), but not too generous. Basically, it was just right, but not as wonderful as I expected it to be, or what its marketing gimmicks make it out to be. It certainly did not send me spiraling off into chicken pie euphoria.
It's not that expensive though and I would say that it is really value-for-money.
Big pies, no joke
Like the review title says, their big pies are no joke - yes they're delectable and yes, they're big. I'm not kidding. Maybe it sounds exaggerating, but it's way too big for me. Then again, my appetite isn't all that big, so unless someone is willing to share the pie with me, it's a disadvantage for myself. Though I have to say, for the standards of their pies and the size of them, the price is just right.
I'm a cautious person, and I never liked to go on adventures, especially not when it involves my food. So the first time I had anything there, I bought myself the black pepper chicken pie. Well, it was also because if I wanted to try their shepherd's pie (I love shepherd's pies) I'd have had to wait for 20 minutes. And I would be late for work if I did, so I went for their black pepper pie.
I didn't regret it. Though not at to-die-for standard, the pie was delicious. I managed to finish three-quarter of the pie alone, and given the size of that thing, I'd usually only be able to finish half.
And having to wait for 20 minutes if a pie sold out? I believe that proves how their pies are always made fresh.
That's what I call quality.
I've been having chicken pie from this very place since I was a little pea. My mum used to tell me that the best chicken pie was from DON and it is the original because it has no lack of flavours. I definitely agree with every single word that she says.
There used to be only one or two outlets where DON chicken pie could be purchased at. Now, everything is a franchise and there are other branches where the chicken pie can be more conveniently bought at. I am really impressed at how the standard of pies still stay the same, and the quality of food is still kept at its optimum despite its franchising. Would definitely not give DON chicken pie a miss if I have yet to try it, simply put it is one of its kind.
One thing to note would be that the pie is rather filling, and the portion can be a little large for those with small stomach capacities.
More abut variety than quality
I feel that this shop is way to caught up with providing a variety of pies that they have forgotten to commit to producing quality pies. I admit that their variety of pies is quite large, but I do not really like the taste of the pies, the pastry is not very tasty nor fluffy, and the fillings are really not very good compared to other pie sellers such as Polar.
I prefer their kueh, especially the kueh lapis, which has a good texture but is not too rich or sweet for me. Their service is also quite good, and it makes me feel like I am visiting my own pie shop for a pie, unfortunately, the costly prices of the items draws me away from patronising them too often,
