Disappointing

I visited Porn's twice, first at its SAFRA Mount Faber outlet and the second at the Star Vista. Second visit left me hugely disappointed. Perhaps it was because I wasn't too hungry, but food quality and taste was lacking. Ordered dishes like: green curry, pineapple fried rice, glass noodle soup, fried tofu squares, and tom yum soup.

The pineapple fried rice was a bit too wet and lacked the good texture that I would have expected. Ingredients were generous though. Green curry was decent, but I enjoyed it more probably because of my virgin experience trying it and not for its actual taste. My glass noodle soup tasted average. It was a bit too oily but I like that the noodles were of a good portion and they were plenty of ingredients to complement the otherwise plain tasting noodles. Comments across the table said that the tom yum soup was really sour but tasted good nonetheless.

Porn's is a good outlet to go for Thai food. But once price is factored in, I would be hard pressed to agree. Not wallet-friendly and serving mediocre food that leaves no fond memory, definitely not a place I would revisit.

decent food, but unremarkable

Compared with other places serving Thai cuisine such as Lemongrass and Thai Express, I daresay Porn's dishes pale in comparison. The dishes don't seem to have an authentic Thai flavour. I'm not sure if a significant portion of the menu is more like a fusion of local and Thai dishes, or just spin-offs. The menu is also rather limited, which doesn't provide much of a choice.

The food itself tastes alright, but the standard and flavours are reminiscent of good home-cooked food, not quite what I'd expect from a restaurant or for the prices we're paying. Unmemorable and nothing to squeal about or make another trip for.

I wasn't very impressed by the ambience either. The decoration was minimalist, but not in a very aesthetically pleasing way - I found it a little too stark, actually.

Authentic Thai Food

My friend and I visited Porn's at the Star Vista. And unsurprisingly, I was attracted to it's loud signboard and bold concept. We ordered Pad Thai, Tom Yum Seafood Soup and a meat stew dish with rice. Very authentic Thai food with fresh ingredients I must say. I hope that they will keep up with their standards even after their expansion. And I've to say that their standards are on par with Thai Express. Porn's indeed another very good option for good Thai food.

Better then expected

Porn's certainly surprised me. In fact I prefer them to Thai Express already, although that is not saying a lot. Their dishes don't have much presentation value so its one of these rare instances where they taste better then they look.

They don't use much garnishing and prices are relatively cheaper than what you're used to. The food here is also a lot more "localised" so don't expect a true authentic Thai food experience here. I loved the clean minimalistic look of the restaurant and I can see them getting really popular thanks to Pornsak's fame and by offering decent food at decent prices.

bold concept but a lack of flavor

The name "Porn's" is no doubt the selling point of this eatery. The brainchild behind this Thai eatery is local celebrity Pornsak. He is a Thai and thus, it would make sense to go and have Thai food at a place opened by a true Thai. I went there because I was intrigued by the name (hahaha!). The interior design of the place is very modern and bold. Nothing like the traditional Thai furnishings, teak wood and what not. It is a very youthful and fun place to have your food at! A pity the food was not as good as what I imagined it to be.

We all know that Thai food always come bursting with the different flavors and this very distinct aroma. I found the flavor and aroma lacking in the Tom Yam Seafood and Pad Thai that I have ordered. I love my Pad Thai more heavy tasting and more aromatic but I was quite disappointed at the one here. The Tom Yam was more to the sour side and not a harmonius balance between sour and spicy. I don't know if it was meant to taste like that or did they modify the recipe to suit the healthy lifestyle that most Singaporeans are working towards? I would not go back there again for the Thai food because I did not find it any more "authentic" than Thai Express.

I can find better elsewhere

Porn’s definitely makes for a name that piques the interests of people. Well-played, Pornsak! Knowing that his Thai descent would no doubt provide authenticity to the Thai dishes, it is with high hopes that I entered Porn’s. The Bugis branch always seems to be filled to the brim, so either 1) go at an odd timing (like 3pm in the afternoon) or 2) visit other outlets that are littered all over Singapore (I suggest Star Vista).

However, the only thing I like about the restaurant is the Tom Yum soup. The rest were not up to my expectations and I can certainly find better and cheaper alternatives around Singapore (Ah Loy!). The small metal bowls (or cups?) for iced water are really too small to be of any constructive use.

Taste like the real deal and love the decoration

I visit Porn at Safra Mt Faber at least once a month if not more. I have got countless bottles of his Mama Lemon dish-washing liquid at home till I have to stop taking it from the cashier. I started coming here because I watch the celebrity on a cooking show where he whipped up a dish that his Cook taught him. I appreciate men who cook :) and it looks good. The craving starts and out of the way it might be, I dragged my hubby there.

We love the authentic taste of the dishes, almost like homecooked Thai food. My hubby who cannot tell the difference between lobster and crayfish, for the first time praise the quality of the food. The menu range is not alot but I like most of the dishes. Actually the small menu helps me to focus when ordering.

I love paying for meals here. It never exceeds $70 for 3 adults and 1 child with a whole table spread of 2 meat dishes, tom yam soup, vegetable, pineapple rice.

Good price for great dishes

The name of the restaurant captured my attention at first and I later found that it was opened by MediaCorp artiste Pornsak. Spicy food suit my tastebuds so I gave it a try. I went to the outlet near to Bugis Junction. It can be easily spotted along the shophouses which mainly served steamboat and desserts.

The restaurant serves authentic thai food and the portion for each dish is reasonable. I usually order a few dishes to share it with my friends. The restaurant is very generous with the ingredients and they always tasted fresh! I love the olive rice and the green curry. The green curry was flavorful and the amount of chicken breast meat inside was more than what I expected.

The ambience was good and I never failed to enjoy my meals at Porn's. The best part, I was not overcharged for the superb food and service! (:

good thai food

I used to be skeptical about Mediacorp artistes who do a sideline business to open restaurants. I was forced to dine at Porn's as most of the restaurants have already closed, since it was 930pm. We ordered a plate of Pineapple rice, Phat Thai, a bowl of green curry as well as a serving of panda chicken.

Our food were served very quickly and the staff were very efficient and friendly. The pineapple rice looked very appetizing and it tastes as nice as it looked! The huge chunks of pineapple used were sweet and gave the rice a delightful sweet after taste. The Phat Thai was great too! Though it was a little oily, generous servings of ingredients were used. The green curry was one of the best green curry I've had in a long while. The rich coconut taste, the mixture of spices, the fresh ingredients used to make the curry was an explosion of flavors in my mouth.

Lastly, the price was indeed pocket friendly. We ate till we could eat no more, yet we paid less than $20 per person. Porn's definitely proved me wrong and I will be back there again!

Good food at great prices!

Opened by Pornsak, a host, entertainer who works under Mediacorp, he branches out into other areas, which i must say is a smart move for how long can one stay in Mediacorp? I must say the name of his shop is very wittily named, when i heard news of it i couldn't believe it was his!

The sleek and white interior of his shop, gives customers a feeling of serenity and "clean" feeling. The food were portioned just right, and even though it was a restaurant, they didn't charge exorbitant prices. This would help for more people to be able to enter to have a taste of some spicy thai grub.

One thing i like about thai food is it's abundance of spices used in the cooking, and the food here definitely hit the spot with its pungent and spicy thai tom yam soup.

Would be back again, definitely.
