I absolutely love The Noose! From start to finish, I'd be sitting there with a silly grin on my face. I love how they manage to inject fun and humour into Singaporean happenings and recent news without being offensive.
My favourite characters are the ones played by Michelle Chong such as Barberella, Nida Goodwood, Leticia and Nancy Goh. Her impersonations of the stereotypical characters are extremely on point and entertaining! Never fails to pick me up after a long day at school.
I think that this show is a really good reminder for us Singaporeans to loosen up and not take things too seriously. A lot of the time, the things that make the news in Singapore are not even of high importance. Perhaps, when we learn to look past the petty things, only then can we focus on the issues that really matter.
Best local production in recent years
With all the low cost productions and repetitive themes, one would think that Singapore has no decent shows. The Noose is THE show that will prove you guys wrong. It is the most brilliant local production I've ever come across in recent years.
The Noose tackles local current affairs using a satirical approach, and hilarity ensues. I love the show for its witty dialogue and memorable characters, such as Barberella, Leticia and Terry etc. This show makes me feel happy when I'm overseas or away from home.
There's a reason why the Noose is my favourite production, and probably the only local production show I watch. It shows a humorous and witty side that Singaporeans have, and tackles various ongoing current issues in Singapore society.
Laughs and smiles
Not many Singaporean local dramas could make me laugh so hard till I actually shed tears! Yes, the Noose is the only local comedy that makes me excited whenever an new episode is on. The Noose captures jokes that true blue Singaporeans would understand.
For example, the stereotype of filipino maids having bangadeshi workers as their boyfriends. Characters of Leticia and Terry have fit into the category really well. Foreigners or tourists would not understand some jokes. The Noose has a habit of making fun of some of current affairs too. Singaporeans who are abroad can catch up on the episode on the internet and laugh their hearts out.
At times I would find myself using the jokes when I am with my friends as they too would find it hilarious. I hope that Channel 5 would renew The Noose for another season. However, it wouldn't be the same without Michelle Chong as one of the main cast. She is a really good comedian and held a few well known characters in the sitcom. Hope to have her as a guest or back as one of the main cast soon!
Totally advisable for viewing
This is the TV programme that always sets me on laughter, doubled over on the sofa. To ensure that we (my family and I) don’t miss each session every week, we even go to great lengths to record it! I feel that The Noose is a satire of how things run in our country, and there are also colloquial jokes cracked during the programme. The actors are extremely talented, taking on different roles throughout the whole session, and speaking with exaggerated imitations of the role they are in.
I really wish each session of The Noose could be longer than half an hour, because I can never get enough of it. :)
M favourite of them all is Xin Hua Hua, but I do miss Barbarella, Leticia and Lulu, all who originate from the same actress. Unfortunately, she had left the crew some time ago. I can’t wait for the new season of The Noose, it’s seriously hilarious! You are strongly advised to watch The Noose! :)
Choose Noose. You won't lose.
This is one programme I will always watch. Not that it always clicks, but by and large, it is both clever and hilarious. I must say I miss Michelle Chong a.k.a. Lulu and Barbarella in the new series, but that is being unfair to Xinhua Hua (I love the names), who has a really bright start act to follow and that is always difficult. He is growing on me.
Sometimes I wonder whether the segments are not actually real stories and I have to ask around to make sure they are joking. The recent 'report' on the government giving out entertainment vouchers to encourage romance was a case in point. I am still not convinced they stole it from Channel News Asia.
I am delighted that it is also seen on the Comedy Channel. I am not sure how it would translate overseas, but with Henderson Pooper and BBSEe, how can it miss.
Who ever said Singaporeans have no sense of humour?
Its difficult to find good Singaporean shows these days. It seems as though Singaporean actors cannot act naturally. Whenever I watch a Singaporean production, the acting always seems over the top, stiff, or forced. With The Noose however, Singaporeans have a show to be proud off.
Perhaps it succeeds because over the top acting is what is required to pull off this comedy. But the actors do a great job at putting a comic twist to current affairs and local news. Michelle Chong in particular is a natural chameleon. All the actors take on multiple roles, but her rendition of newscaster, Barbarella the weather girl, Lulu the KTV Hostess, Leticia the maid, and many others are so natural that you can actually believe it.
In many ways, the show lightens the mood. In uptight and stress-filled Singapore, its delivery is perfect encouraging Singaporeans to relax.
So much win!
I love the Noose! It's a comedy sitcom that creates a satire on us Singaporeans, as well as current happenings - of which some are soooo ridiculous. They have the ability to make anything and everything funny, no matter how serious the news was. They try to bring across a new perspective, and that somehow encourages us to not just believe the news blindly, and see the entire situation in different angles.
Also, sometimes they would subtly highlight how stupid people can be, which eventually boils down to, 'why are we taking life is such a serious and mundane manner, can you just chill and relax with a glass of wine?'
My fav of them actors all, has to be Michelle Chong, this very talented woman who impersonates almost anyone really flawlessly - inparticular Leticia and Babarella Something-something.
I wish there was another upcoming season!
If there's one local television program I have to pick as my favourite out of all the others, it would have to be The Noose.
I'm not someone who catches the news regularly by nature, nor am I someone who checks the newspaper every morning to stay in tune with current affairs. Of course, I still get the news from word of mouth from time to time, but other than that, I don't really follow current affairs unless it really catches my interest and attention. The Noose, on the other hand, pulls me in without fail and unwittingly updates me on local news whether I like it or not.
What I like about The Noose is the way it offers such a unique perspective on Singaporean news, even going so far as to use satire and tongue-in-cheek humour to pull viewers in. Viewers of all ages tune in and enjoy it immensely, and while doing so get updated about our local news as well. I personally want to applaud Channel 5 for churning out The Noose, because what better way to pull the young folk of Singapore in to know more about what's happening in our country by presenting it in a harmless but entertaining way? I don't know about you, but after I watch The Noose, I'm a little more interested in catching up on the news through the papers.
A great production on Channel 5, and one I would hate to miss.
Half an hour of bit-sized fun
I always looked forward to tuning in to the Noose, because of the witty humour and the ability of the program to make a hilarious joke out of unique Singaporean behaviours.
Those attuned to this programme will register several prominent characters, of which Leticia Bongnino, the maid who has a boyfriend named Terry, is my favourite. Her role highlights the vibrancy of the maid in Singapore, where an increasingly affluent lifestyle has led to an influx of domestic helpers as the owners shy away from household chores, which they perceive as menial work. Belinda Chong's sharp wit and sarcasm is indeed a must see as she stars as a TV Presenter, Leticia and a PRC reporter throughout the series.
Other characters though, doesn't stand out. I perceive them as mainly complementary players that boost the acting of the main characters. However, each episode, featuring a unique story line as they tackle different issues surrounding Singapore, is indeed witty, humorous and offers a fresh perspective of many issues.
Noose is a original made-in-Singapore TV show that spoofs the everyday happening in Singapore, ranging from weather to hot topics like National Service. The hosts, Adrianna Wow and BB See (by Michelle Chong) conducts the show in a news flash format. Other than both of them, other characters like acts out the different characters.
The news pokes fun at the happenings in Singapore. Not only does it makes me laugh, it also strikes a chord with Singaporeans and i feel this is good because sometimes they speak out our thoughts, and its an avenue to laugh and share similar frustrations with them about the daily lives of a Singaporean.
A smart and hilarious TV production that i am proud of that is not afraid to touch sensitive boundaries but yet not become a 'complain' show
