Affordable bistro serving Taiwanese food

Stepping into the bistro, there isn't much of a 'Taiwanese' feel, because of the rather contemporary design and setting of the place. The food itself, is pretty Taiwanese, with a couple of good eats and awesome drinks.

One dish I tried was the Mee Sua without oysters. It was pretty mediocre, lacked depth, and every mouthful had several tiny shrimps in it, which i didn't like and feel they didn't impart much flavour. I feel Shihlin's Mee Sua is much nicer even though the soup base tastes completely different.

The Salted Crispy Chicken is definitely a must-try! I was super surprised since I eat this quite regularly every time there is a night-market/pasar malam in my neighbourhood and I thought it will be similar tasting. But this was far crispier, yet more tender on the inside! My only regret is that I had to share this with 5 friends...

I really liked my milk tea as well, which is comparable to those from Gong Cha and Koi, but the chicken and ambience made it taste much nicer! One tip, if you visit the place with more friends, you can order more sides and mains to share since the servings itself are pretty small. Also, you don't have to finish not-so-nice dishes by yourself!

Taiwanese food with Jay Chou music!

Jay Chou fans would quickly recognise the Jay Chou reference at the name of the restaurant. Indeed, Jay Chou fans can visit this place and enjoy listening to his songs throughout your meal. The eatery moved to its new location after relocating from Yio Chu Kang road. Unfortunately, the menu has since been greatly reduced! I’m hoping it can bring back some of its old dishes.

One dish you should try is the ‘Smoked Duck Breast with Spicy Mango Salsa’. I’ve had smoked duck before but never with mango in it! Oh and how could I not mention the Taiwanese beer they serve! 8 Degrees serve both Lychee and Melon beer, among other beers. The Melon beer tastes like Honeydew melon, hence the name. I don’t usually like beer because of the bitter taste but this beer is rather good because of the fruity flavour. I don’t see this being sold elsewhere so I usually head here to get my fix! The milk tea served here is really value for money. My Ice Milk Tea with Grass Jelly costs $4.80 and the size of the beverage was huge! There also tasty finger food like ‘Taiwanese Salted Crispy Chicken’. However, the service can be quite slow but the wait is worth it because of the food.
