The Kallang Tennis Centre was opened as a community sports facility in March 1978. Since then, it has been a popular venue for tennis programmes and competitions, including hosting the local national schools’ tennis competitions. It is also the training venue for the national team and national youth teams. The Kallang Tennis Centre is equipped with 14 courts. Temporary seating stands for 2,000 will be built around the main court for fans and the media during the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

Where tennis happens
It was here that I won my first tennis match, and it was here that I lost my first tennis match. It was also here that I trained hard for tennis, in sessions three times a week. Kallang Tennis Centre is the place where tennis happens, where trainings, competitions and tournaments are held. Right before the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) started, seats were set up, which surrounded Court 14, and it was there that the YOG finals was played out. I was one of the really eager spectators, as it was my first time watching a real life match between professionals.
The thing about the tennis courts in Kallang Tennis Centre is that there is hardly any shade from the sun. Be sure to slap on tons of sunscreen lotion before you enter the courts! :)
When it is Singapore’s turn to host the Woman’s Tennis Association (WTA), where professionals such as Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams play, guess where it will be held? Yep, Kallang Tennis Centre. If you are planning to go there during the WTA season, do count me in! :)
