One for All, All for One

Girl Guides was the first co-curricular activity I joined during secondary school days and till today, I'm proud to say that deep down in my heart, I will always be a Girl Guide.

It taught me various lessons to life - sisterhood, loyalty, pride, discipline, and the list just seem to go on endlessly. There are practical skills which I've learnt - first aid, fire drills, marching drills, survivor skills in the wilderness and much more.

The most enjoyable time was when I get to be part of a campfire comittee, doing the whole set-up of a campfire from scratch. This is where I first learn how to manage people, work togethr in a team despite differences, learning from each others' perspectives to make the event bigger and better everytime.

Through campfires, I get to network with other girl guides from the other schools who share the same passion. The Girl Guides Association have courses and in my time, we (group of girls whom know each other through campfires) signed up together for it.

The one thing I will definitely do every year - purchase Girl Guides cookies. It tastes good, comes in a nicely packaged rectangular tin which can be re-used for other purposes and best of all, it goes to charity.

Bonds of Sisterhood.

If there's one thing I've gained from my experience in Girl Guides, it's sisterhood. Even after having left Girl Guides for 2 years, my sisters and I still meet up frequently and we still share a strong bond that has come from being in this programme together.

Trust me, being thrown into the great outdoors can be daunting at times, especially since we are used to the comforts of city life. But when you're surrounded by sister Guides, there really isn't anything to fear. And look, there's nothing a good s'more and campfire song can't solve!
