Cakes in jars It’s all in the details; the house-made sea salt dulce de leche with chocolate truffle has a cookie centre, recyclable jars are tied with brown string, and the hand-drawn menus will make you smile. This void-deck six-seater café is as compact as its trifle-like cake-in-a-jar.

Cute little jars!

I saw a review of Grin Affair online and I head down to find it in midst of Outram Park to try it out with one of my friend. The shop decor is kind of vintage which was quite interesting, however I find that the store is too small, it can barely accomodate people.

The cake in the jar is so pretty and cute! I got myself the lavender honey cake and my friend the durian cake. The lavender honey cake has lavender scented honey mousse layered in between vanilla cake with fresh blueberries sitting on top. At first bite it might seems queer, with the lavender taste however when you get use to the lavender smell, it comes off as light and refreshing. The durian cake is made of durian (mao shan wang only) mousse with vanilla cake and baked crust. It is surprisingly light and smells and taste really good, the durian does not come off as overpowering.

Price wise, it ranges from $5 to $6, and it might seem as a little expensive for its portion. I will return to try the other flavours if I'm passing by for it is a little out of the way.

cute little shop

Grin Affair is a really cute shop. It's tiny and found in a neighbourhood called Everton Park. There are no real display for their cakes and also no real space for you to linger and eat your cake. You pick your cake from pictures on the wall that look kinda terrible and then they take it out from the fridge, and off you go scooting off with your cute little jar in hand.

The whole novelty of getting your cake in a cute little jar is the main reason why they are attracting customers. I got mine and drove to Tiong Bahru to eat it. To be honest, i had the cookies and cream cheese cake thing and even though it's kinda small, i didn't finish it. Its just fun to eat but it wasn't worth my calories. Perhaps my friend who ate it said it's terrible and i got swayed.

Will i return for another cute jar? Answer is no. Neither the neighbourhood or the cake attracts me enough to return.
