LOVE their liu sha bao!

Aster Pau is the only place (in my opinion) that sells good golden custard buns outside of restaurants. Though the fillings are a little watery and lacks that tinge of saltiness, it is able to ooze out of the bun whenever one bites into them and that’s how I love my buns to be! OOZY SINFUL GOODNESS.

It's always a bit of a challenge, preventing it from getting all over my clothes but it’s only satisfying when you get generous amounts of fillings with every mouthful! I know of some places that stinge on their custards, giving only a meager amount in each bun making it really dry. You get how it feels when you’re just chewing on a whole lump of flour yes?

Their other dim sum tastes good too! Like the pan-fried buns, carrot cake and siew mai. My never-to-miss afternoon snack.

delicious, but oily

When Aster Pau first moved into NEX, I thought it was another of those mediocre dim sum shops. How wrong I was! My mum purchased a piece of carrot cake from them as I was feeling hungry, and one bite, I was hooked. It was delicious, although albeit oily. The carrot cake was thick and savoury, and it makes a good snack. (:

The next time we went back to NEX for grocery shopping, we also purchased their other dim sums available. I still remember the taste of their siew mai, with just the right amount of flavour, making breakfast a lovely thing to wake up to.

Definitely recommended for a taste of dim sum, although the downside is that there is a lot of oil used!
