I first went to Tanglin Mall in typical Expat style, visiting the in branch Nando's. I was having London withdrawals and desperately needed some Peri Peri in my life, so thanks for that Tanglin. In all there are only about four reasons that I have been to Tanglin, two being restaurants, the other a hairdressers and the other a tailor, so it’s not exactly the hottest shopping destination that Singapore has to offer.
I find the the mix of shops inside the mall to be very random, and that the majority of them could all be found at other locations. The variation of shops is a bit poor, you can look around and be done in about 20 minutes so unless you know exactly what you want when heading there, don’t bother. A plus however, is that there are a few nice independent stores which you would probably normally walk past, but if you have a chance then feel free to have a quick look. They’re pricey, but there are sometimes some really nice things.
The inside decor is old fashioned, and when the super modern Orchard Road is literally two bus stops away, there are not many reasons that I can think of as to why I would rather go to Tanglin.
Let me begin with the good things. This mall has several outlets that malls in, say, Orchard, do not have. There are many high end restaurants here, including Nando's, and also quite a few high end clothes stores. So, basically, it provides what Orchard may have missed out on.
Now, the decor of the building makes it seem as if it is really old, so I guess it needs a facelift. In the basement, there is a supermarket, Tanglin market place, which carries Cold Storage products.
The shops here have quite small outlets compared to other branches. But never mind. The most horrible thing is the inaccessibility of this place. The nearest bus stop is a decent walk away. And it is not even near to any MRT station or whatnot. Why don't you just go to Orchard since it's more convenient, then. I actually almost got lost, and had to use GPS to navigate to Orchard haha
