Nanyang Girls’ High School was founded in 1917 by a group of leaders from the United League of China inspired by Mr. Sun Yet-sen’s view that women should receive an education in order to play a more active role in serving their country. It is a premier independent and Special Assistance Plan (SAP) school.

The academic exposures are great!
When most people discuss their schooling experience, they are likely bring up the strong friendships forged or the fun enjoyed during commemorative events as their greatest takeaways. These were things I definitely gleaned from my time in Nanyang; however if asked about what defined my school experience, the many academic opportunities I received would be the first point to roll off my tongue. My four years there were filled with many academic attachments- from overseas trips to Shanghai and New York, to 6-month long mentorship programs under professors from NUS.
Through these, the subjects I was studying literally came alive as I was exposed to many hands-on experiences which allowed me to pursue them at a much deeper level. Unlike many students in Singapore, I didn’t feel as if I was studying to pass, but rather learning because everything was so interesting and applicable to everyday life.
