Similar to RSH, World of Sports has absolutely no range at all. True, they may have the mainstream brands such as Nike, but the lesser-known ones have absolutely no shelf space at all.
The one point that irks me is how even though they place their focus on these popular sporting apparel brands, they don't restock often. I was looking for some running shoes from New Balance my friend was telling me about, and to my surprise, they said that they have run out of stock, and are not going to replenish the shoes anytime soon. The kicker? The shoes were just released this year.
I would rather order online, I can get a wider range of options at a cheaper rate.
You see but you don't buy
As the name suggests, it's just a place that sells sports equipment. However, it's definitely not the place where I will get my sports shoes or my sports wear. Why? Because it's just way too expensive! Although it does cater to quite a handful of different types of sports but the things there are just too over-rated.
The only thing that I've ever bought from World of Sports was a pair of volleyball shoes. It was for my brother's birthday. However, it's also the first and the last time I would ever get anything from there. Not only am I unsatisfied with the equipment's price, their service was atrocious. I requested for a new pair of size 42 shoes and of cause I expected the retail assistant to carry it for me to the counter. However, it took them more than 15 mins to get a new pair out from their storeroom and they left it at one corner expecting me to know that that was mine. It was until I approached the assistant again, than he went to carry it over to the counter. A total waste of my time.
Boring, open concept place
World of Sports is another boring place.
It's an open-concept place too. Everything that the shop stocks is right in front of you - no more and no less. So if there's nothing you like at first glance, there's nothing probably to stay for. This place is good for it's Birkenstock supplies but for all else, nah.
This was the store I bought my first badminton racket at and it turned out to be a bad purchase. The racket was heavy and not suitable for me at 13 at that point but the person was so insistent on hard-selling that she completely ignored my small stature.
I'd still go to this place but to browse and nothing else.
wide variety but not specific enough
Honestly, all sports shops look the same to me (other than the individual brand retailers like Nike, Adidas); World of Sports is no exception. As it name suggests, it sells everything related to sports; ranging from sports shoes to backpacks to even jerseys!
it really just makes me go 'meh'; because it really is just another mundane shop. In addition, the prices are just rocketing sky high! Seriously, it cannot get anymore expensive. My suggestion would be to buy your sports gear directly from individual retailers like Nike or Adidas, better still make your shopping trip more efficient if you already have a favourite band in mind! Even so, I think going around and looking at the individual retailing shops would be better than going into World of Sports (if you do not have a specific brand in mind).
World of Sports may carry a wide range of sports equipment, but if you are looking for specific types of shoes, I recommend going into the individual retailing shops too! World of Sports carries just very basic types of equipment, so if you are looking for shoes that may be for flat footed people etc, going into Nike or Adidas would be a better option as they have specific gear to different types of sportsmen.
I don't like world of sports. Period.
Maybe it's because of the overall look of the whole shop. Call me superficial but really, it's so messy. Not in the way where things are all over the place but.. just messy.
Only members get the huge discounts (30% off sometimes) so unless you buy a lot of sports gear, this shop is of no use to you. I'd rather go to royal sporting house because they have a wider variety of sports gear there.
I like nike a lot and world of sports usually doesn't carry many of Nike's goods. Maybe the most basic types of sports bra and compression shorts. However, if you are looking for guards like McDavid, I am pretty sure you can only find it in world of sports and not royal sporting house.
Only Members Got Priority
The World Of Sports store offers a wide range of variety for Sports Lovers, and as well as shoppers. A place that you'll definitely go in if you're looking for sports gears and such, rather then to head down to a main retail store which only supports one brand such as Ever-last, Nike and Adidas etc, these days.
It always seems like only members will be the ones that is having greater offers and discount, since most of the stores usually have a 15% discount for every items in the store, while major and public shoppers usually have no discount and can only wait for the great deals, and anniversary sales somewhere in the middle of the year and the end of year.
The store assistants were really very helpful and approach the customers asking if they need help and such, I really appreciate their right working attitude towards customer service and explaining to us about the offers and deals that they are currently having in the store.
For generic sporting equipment
Due to varied sports interests (e.g. kayaking, trekking) I have never frequented World of Sports. My family only goes there for our general sports stuff, like thick socks and comfortable walking shoes. If you have special requirements like sport climbing shoes and hiking equipment, you won't find these here.
If this is what you want, then the range of generic sports apparel and equipment is very good. The shoe range is particularly exhaustive! This is great for those who don't have the stamina to browse all the shops in Queensway Shopping Centre (or the time to go there), which is where you get the cheapest deals.
Due to the fact that it's a chain, the World of Sports has a lot of promotions throughout the year. If you're not in a rush to buy, wait till a sale comes around - maybe every few months? - before getting your purchase.
Keep looking out for the better deal
World of Sports could the perfect store that has been sought after by sports lovers. Located islandwide with over 20 retail outlets, World of Sports provides all the sports-related equipments to accessories that you might need.
All different sports brands that this shop carries including Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Puma and other famous brands. You could also get your sports attires and accessories here ( from sport attires, sport shoes to a wide range of basketballs); sometimes the items sold here could be cheaper than the similar ones sold in other retail shops. So, it is definiely a great bargain if you could spot which items worth buying.
The items displayed are categorised into their own sections , thus, making it easy for the shoppers to identify the products. And for the sport attire section, they are hung together in a section. Some outlets could be less spacious and you might need the staff assistance to get the items you need. The same thing applies if you are getting anything that is bulky and displayed at the top shelves. You should ask for assistance for safety reasons.
This shop is definitely recommendable to the sport fans ; for all you know, you could get better deal shopping in World of Sports.
Promotions all year round!
I have been sourcing for a Wilson Tennis racket recently. The latest Pro series Roger Federer’s model came out on rack for SDG399.
I went online to check on the overseas retail and the same model cost merely US$199. My, what a huge hike! I made calls to several sports shops in Singapore and the prices are kept at this rate. I guess it could be a price already moderated by the main distributor.
Anyway, this discovery made me think twice buying anything from Singapore sports shops. Maybe accessories are still worth paying for, but not the sports equipment or apparels.
Still, comparing different sports shops, an Adidas shop will sell nothing less than $39. Well, at least World of Sports does hold many sales throughout the whole year and apparel can cost as low as $12. Even the non-discounted item may cost $30 and below.
Normally I will head down to the outlet at Toa Payoh as it’s a factory outlet. Discounts are all year round. I bought a few running shorts there. Some sports bras are sold for $25 during promotional marathon. The staffs at this branch are very helpful and sincere. No hard selling or bad recommendations.
one-stop store for all your sports needs
World of Sports can be found in most neighborhood shopping malls. The name implies that the place is a world of sports, and that is what it is. They focus on selling the most updated sports equipments, running shoes equipped with the newest technology and authentic branded sportswear. It is a highly-trusted brand among Singaporeans and you can be guaranteed of the authenticity of the products there. They carry major brands like Adidas, Nike and Reebok. Less well-known brands such are Brooks and Le Coq Sportif are also available!
World of Sports do sell their items at a higher price as compared to stores at Queensway Shopping Centre which is a mall with a lot of discounted sports-related goods. You will not get discounts on past season items at WoS unlike the stores at Queensway Shopping Centre. Hence, many people might choose to shop at Queensway instead. WoS exudes a more professional vibe than the stores at Queensway. If you are looking for a highly reliable sports retailer, WoS will definitely be your number 1 choice. But if you are on a budget and are looking for past season items at a discounted price then head to Queensway Shopping Centre instead.
