overrated and overpriced
I’ve always found candles a huge waste of money - why pay over 20 dollars for something that only lasts 3 days max? Of all the scented candles, the most prominent brand is Yankee Candle, ‘America’s best loved candle’. I visited their outlet at One KM mall, and the fragrance in the store itself was promising. I was recommended the Midsummer’s Night, Clean Cotton and Lemon Lavender, all of which i purchased in the votive candle form ($4.90/candle). The small and large jars were $21.90 and $41.90 respectively, which were way too steep for me.
I lit the Clean Cotton one right before I slept, since I sometimes have problems falling asleep. I could barely even smell the candle unless it was really close to me, and it had little effect on my sleep. I tried the Lemon Lavender next, and this time the scent was very soap-like and not at all pleasant. The Midsummer’s Night was bearable, smelling a little of men’s cologne but overall my favourite of the lot.
Still don’t understand what the hype is all about, maybe I chose the wrong scents? Candles are great to add a little ambience and sometimes have nice fragrances, but using it on a daily basis? I pass.
