I'm someone who loves getting to customize and choose things. I also take very long to decide on things. This can be a very bad combination, but thankfully at Makeshake it was pretty easy to make the choice!
Their instructions are very clear too, you choose a size, a base, and a chocolate/topping. I chose teh tarik ice cream and kinder bueno ice cream, and I felt a bit cheated at first as the cup was quite small for the price we had to pay.
I felt even sadder about the size after taking my first sip, because the milkshake was just that good. Thick without being hard to suck through the straw, and with bits of chocolate to surprise you, it was perfect. On hindsight, the size was just right even though it looked small! I was really full after finishing my cup. Major thumbs-up to them for having high quality milkshakes:)
Never underestimate cup sizes here
I knew I should have listened to my friend, who said that the medium cup was enough to make one full. Usually, it could down huge cup sizes easily. But for Makeshake, it was quite different. The shakes here are very full of sugary sweet goodness and blended ingredients. It isn't diluted like a traditional milkshake, instead it is thicker than a smoothie.
The thing about this store is there is an immense amount of customisation that can be done. However I was too lazy to customise myself and just called for a strawberry cream cheese shake. Oh boy was it rich in flavor, and complete with the cheese bits. Yum!
The prices are a bit too high for my liking, but my suggestion to you is get used to the cup sizes first
What used to be empty space from what I remember at the Jurong Point outlet is now a MakeShake outlet. I'm glad that there are a number of milkshake outlets from MakeShake to Once Upon A Milkshake popping up all over the island. Having only the McDonald's ones as a kid and time to time in burger joints/restaurants later on, it's a pleasant surprise to have standalone milkshake outlets.
Like bubble tea outlets such as KOI and Gong Cha, it takes some time to decide what you want due to the complexity of the menu. Thankfully, their signature milkshakes are a godsend for the people who are too lazy to think and have one on the menu that fits their taste mostly. For those of us who are more particular, making a shake from scratch is what you're looking for. Choose a base flavour and go wild from there, with the amount of money you decide to part with being the key factor stopping you.
This is when I lament the price and (naively) hope that the price drops as a result of competition or sheer goodwill. However, as a once in a while treat, I find it excellent. At $5 - 8, it is not cheap and I believe that will be the chief concern of customers.
Lastly, as a youth, it's a great idea to get that milkshake fix, seeing it being made right in front of you makes for a great experience as well. Regarding the Jurong Point outlet, I question the location, it is situated in the walkway and being somewhat cramped, it is unable to offer that hangout atmosphere it was probably looking for. However, if what you're looking for is something to grab and go, it's up your alley.
Small cup size may be deceiving, but it's just right!
Before I got to have my virgin milkshake at Makeshake, I always walked past it whenever I was at City Square Mall, but I always seemed to take notice of their drinks. I just felt that I had to try it at least once, because I was so curious as to what the different 'preset' flavours tasted like! A few of my friends even recommended me to try Makeshake, so I arranged with a friend to go for drinks at the youthful looking shop!
While I was queuing up with my friend, he pointed at the cups on display, and we thought of how small the drink was going to be. I ordered the Marshella drink, which is Nutella and marshmallows.
For $3.90, it really seemed like a disappointing size at first impression. The first sip of my Marshella was simply delectable. The sweet delicious taste of Nutella combined with melt-in-your-mouth mini marshmallows in the form of a thick milkshake just went so well altogether... However, by the end of the drink, I was quite glad that the size of the drink was that small. In fact, it felt like that size was worth $3.90 after I finished the drink! The level of sweetness was definitely JUST RIGHT for that amount of milkshake, so I was more than glad that I didn't ask for a larger size...
Makeshake is more or less strictly for sweet tooths. If you do not like drinks this sweet, I don't recommend that you try this. But if you love it, then I highly recommend this place to you! As for myself, I believe one cup every once in a long while is enough, because over-drinking such sweetness could possibly make me hate eventually...
Will be back for more!
I found the customization process daunting, or maybe I'm just lazy. So i asked the staff what the most popular drink was. He pointed to ther Chocolate Addict which was supposed to be a mix of choclate fudge + kit kat. Unfortunately I failed to taste both those flavors it it, but nevertheless it was still a delicious concoction. They also had a giant sized cup not on the menu, $2.50 more than the medium sized one. That was cool, never seen such big servings before!
I'm looking forward to coming back and trying more flavours, especially the nutella flavour.
