Excellent location albeit a bit pricey!

I stayed at the Hilton Singapore over the past weekend to enjoy some personal space and time away from the hectic daily life. I also made a deliberate attempt to mute all work-related email notifications to ensure that I do not get tempted to do what I should not. While I have covered this hotel in a previous review, I thought this stay was pretty exceptional so it deserved another review. Besides, I stayed in a different room type this time and thought I might cover more aspects of the hotel.

I stayed in a King Hilton Executive Room (32 sqm.) this time with Executive Lounge access. I was granted an early check-in at the hotel and my room preferences were noted in advance by the hotel staff (high floor and away from the elevator). It's always nice for a hotel (or an airline) to pay close attention to your room/seat preferences. There's a comfortable one-sitter sofa that's by the side of the King bed, next to this amazing mood light. Dim and warm lighting is great for a bedroom in ensuring a peaceful night's sleep.

For those who are on business or simply just enjoy doing work on the weekends (but why?!), there's a large work desk with an adjustable light that you can utilise. You will also find details pertaining to hotel facilities and in-room dining located under the desk. There's also wired internet connection (HSIA) for those of you who have not discovered the beauty of wireless internet. Internet is chargeable for the basic room types at $5.35 but it is complimentary for Gold and Diamond members.

For those of you that likes your shirt freshly pressed, you will be glad to know that the rooms come equipped with an iron (an ironing board). There's also extra foam pillows for those of you that enjoy building a pillow fort. In any case, you should always feel free to call the hotel operator to ask for a different pillow if the ones in your room do not meet your preferences. Good hotels come with a pillow menu that you can choose from but the absence of one should not deter you from getting one that is more suitable for you.

There's basic coffee and tea making facilities in the room. Once again, feel free to call the hotel operator to refill this during your stay or simply ask a housekeeper who is already on your level. One thing that can possibly be improved in the future will be to include Nespresso coffee machines in room. Being over 40 years old, the Hilton Singapore needs to constantly undergo refurbishments or enhancements to stay relevant in the fast changing landscape of the hotel industry.

Complimentary drinking water is also offered in rooms although the water from tap in Singapore is potable. The hotel also offers an evening turndown service.

My room was located on one of the highest floors, overlooking the Four Seasons Hotel, away from Orchard Road. The King Hilton Executive Plus rooms (37 sqm.) come with an attached balcony that overlooks the famous shopping strip. For those that fancy something even larger, there's also a King Hilton Executive Suite (69 sqm.) that comes with a separate living room.

The Executive Lounge located on Level 22 offers an expansive view of Orchard Road. I really like how natural lighting comes from the glass ceilings and oversized windows. Alongside other benefits, the Executive Rooms in Hilton Singapore gains you access to the lounge which offers the following:

Daily Continental Breakfast
Weekdays - 6am to 1030am
Weekends and PHs - 630am to 11am
Afternoon Tea
3pm to 430pm
Evening Cocktails
530pm to 8pm
All-day coffee, tea and soft beverages
6am to 1030pm

I would personally not recommend the Afternoon Tea as the canapes served during this time is usually really small and lackluster. However the Evening Cocktail hours are great as they serve a selection of wines and liquor with enough food that can serve as a light dinner. I would also recommend having breakfast at Checkers Brasserie instead of the Executive Lounge as the variety and quality is greater in the former location. However, I did have my breakfast once at the Executive Lounge since it was more time-efficient as I was rushing off to work.

The swimming pool that is on Level 24 (accessible via Level 23) is pretty special. I personally love rooftop pools since they offer such a great view of the hotel's surroundings. Pool towels can be taken from the gym on Level 23 and I highly advise you to wear your footwear since the floor gets quite hot during the afternoon.

Apart from the suntanning beds that are made available for hotel guests, there are also plenty of seats around for those who enjoy doing some light reading in the sun (while working on your tan). Hotel guests who are travelling with children or those who are not comfortable with swimming in deeper waters should note that the deepest part of this swimming pool is 3.0m deep. I was pretty surprised myself as most hotel pools do not offer such depths in their swimming pools..

The Hilton Singapore is also home to various famous restaurants such as Il Cielo and Iggy's. However, being an HHonors Reward Category 7 hotel, I do not suppose using 60,000 points in this property for a free night is worthwhile. With the hotel being located at such a premium strip of land in Singapore, the room rates can be quite high.
