A Jolly Christmas Staycation
The Regent Singapore is a Four Seasons hotel located right beside St.Regis on Tanglin Rd. The pristine location is close by many upscale dining and shopping options.
I spent Christmas night at the Regent Singapore after making a booking through Rocketmiles at a slightly cheaper price as compared to other third party sites.Apart from being cheaper, the Rocketmiles booking also included breakfast, and 4,000 Krisflyer miles, something the other sites did not include.
The booking was a superior room, but the room I received was a deluxe. It would have been nice if I was informed of an upgrade so that I was aware. I found myself in a tiny foyer after opening the room doors. The room was quite spacious and boasted a sofa with a coffee table.Though the room is dated, I did not notice much wear on the furniture, ceilings or walls. The level of maintenance is further enhanced by the twice-daily turn down service.
The toilet can be accessed through the foyer of the room. Fully clad in marble and wood, it was also equipped with a bathrub and L’occitane amenities.
Located on the 2nd floor, Basilico is the breakfast venue for the Regent Singapore.I was pleasantly surprised with the sheer variety of food at the breakfast buffet. This is definitely one of the better breakfast buffets that I’ve had.
Apart from the jumbo hot dogs and perfectly brewed cappuccino, I was extremely happy with the breakfast at the Regent Singapore. Overall, I think that this old dog still has a good amount of spunk left and definitely a considerable hotel to stay in. Looking forward to the suite rooms and club lounge at a later date.
Good service and excellent stay!
It was a yearly tradition to go for a stay cation to celebrate my husband's birthday. The hotel actually send me a pre-arrival confirmation email few days before my reservation to prepare for our arrival. After we have checked into the hotel, a surprise chocolate cake for my husband was placed in our room to welcome us. The room is spacious and the interior design fuses both eastern and western styles and has a contemporary yet classic feel. We loved the complimentary L'Occitane bathroom amenities and high, comfortable bed, which will definitely guaranteed a good night sleep.
In the evening, we went to the fitness centre to check out the gym, sauna, steam room and whirlpool. My husband did not bring his swimming trunks but fret not as they provide shorts on loan. We had an invigorating time in the whirlpool which can accommodate 3-4 adults comfortably. Note that the use of sauna, steam room and whirlpool facilities is open to both men and women. We had a Italian buffet at the famous Basilico restaurant at level 2 which boasts a good selection of desserts and antipasti and spent close to $100 per person.
As the hotel is located at a more remote and quiet side of Orchard, there was little noise coming from the street level and also offers a good opportunity to explore this quiet side of Orchard road. Dan Ryans restaurant is just next door (I loved their steaks for its rather huge portions!) and the botanical gardens is just a stone throw away if you want to enjoy a morning walk. Overall, it was a wonderful retreat from the busyness of life and the staff at Regent will definitely take good care of you.
I enjoyed my stay!
Regent Hotel is definitely one that is underrated. Due to its somewhat secluded location, it may be difficult to locate it for the first time. The posh Victorian style interior is reminiscent of a wealthy family’s home, which is both luxurious and soothing at the same time. When you look up, the architecture is somewhat similar to MBS.
The suite is not that large but not that exorbitantly priced, so I guess there’s a tradeoff. It was a really comfortable stay for me, though! If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Orchard area, Regent is definitely one of the best choices.
Its the INSIDE that matters... really!
It is easy to miss Regent hotel as it is hidden behind Tudor Court along Tanglin road towards Orchard Road. Moreover there is St Regis just opposite Regent Hotel. Even though it looks old from the exterior you will step in to paradise once you pass through the main door. Especially during Christmas, the whole lobby will be decorated so beautifully. As you enter you will be able to see their lifts in the centre of the lobby which is pretty unique. And on your right is the tea lounge where it is almost always busy. Other than the tea lounge, I recommend you to try their famous Italian restaurant Basilico. The staff and manager are attentive and will take time to explain their dishes to you or even throw in a joke or two. Their weekend brunch may not have as much variety as a full fledge international buffet but you are guaranteed quality. Their desserts are really good too. Must trys are their gelatos and panna cotta. Their panna cottas are the only ones I ever eat as it is the best! If you are in the mood for Chinese cuisine, The Summer Palace restaurant is also pretty good. Try the roast chicken in Bi Feng Teng style – i.e. with almond flakes and fried garlic garnish.
Besides quality food from award winning restaurants in Regent Hotel, you will also be guaranteed quality service from all the staff. Almost all our requests were catered to when we stayed over in their suite for 2 nights. The bed is really comfortable and everything is clean and cosy. But don’t expect a good view from the hotel here due to the location. Moreover it is quite a distance from the nearest MRT (Orchard Station). It is recommended that you take a bus down from Orchard Station if you are not taking a taxi to this Hotel.
