I used to have a Burberry jacket for the winter - and I remember back then Burberry was THE brand to have. Everyone seemed to be clamouring over Burberry apparel. Forget the price, Burberry was the designer item to have - it was the epitome of all luxury goods. It was the Queen of all branded bags and shoes.
Now, however, Burberry seems to have faded from our daily conversation. Overtaken by more vibrant and youthful brands, - Burberry, sadly, has been neglected. Marc by Marc Jacobs and Chanel seems to be at the tip of our tongues much more. I do suppose that the prices have remained as before, but the fame has been diminished while flighting with all the new luxury brands that compete within the small shopping space of Orchard Road.
Iconic British High Fashion Brand
Burberry is a British high fashion, luxury clothing brand that was founded in 1856 in Hampshire, England, by Mr. Thomas Burberry. Known for their sharp looking outdoor attire, and characterised by their trademark tartan 'check' pattern, Burberry is also credited with the invention of the Trench Coat for British military officers during World War I. The company is also commonly called Burberrys Of London.
The iconic tartan check pattern used by Burberry appears on many of their products, and may or may not include their other trademark, the Burberry Equestrian Knight logo with the latin word 'Prorsum', which means 'To Move Forward' or 'Straight Ahead'. Being known for their outer wear, the more popular products from Burberry thus naturally include their range of belts, wallets, trench coats, accessories, jackets, and bags. Personally, I prefer the range of checks that include the Equestrian Knight logo, such as the Haymarket range or The Beat range, as it looks more authentic.
The style of clothing fashion from Burberry can be best described as classic and simple, yet sharp looking. The brand is one of the few global high fashion luxury brands that is instantly recognisable from a distance. I especially like their range of belts and wallets, because of the good workmanship and striking designs. Durability of their products is pretty good, lasting between 1 - 3 years. Naturally, Burberry is also an excellent place for purchasing Trench Coats; because of their special in-house treatment, the trench coat ends up being water resistant, yet still light and breathable.
Burberry clothing is also easy to mix and match, making wardrobe selection much easier especially for ladies. They follow the seasonal trends in fashion, rotating new pieces in every 3 - 6 months or so. Burberry is also known for their philanthropic organization, the Burberry Foundation, which helps in the development of teens and young adults, focusing on building their sense of community and creativity.
My friend was an employee for Burberry several years ago. Hence, I received constant updates from her regarding how or what the new stocks looks like. I am no avid fan of Burberry though. The textures are splendid thus I'd embrace any special employees-only discounted items anytime. However, Burberry is definitely no brand that I'd brandish independently practically everywhere. It's simplicity in designs sometimes calls for alarm.
It's simplicity in design is sophisticated. Heck, they even exude a chic charm. The tops sold there didn't scream " Wow!". Instead, they seem to float around the safe sector. Even a fashion terrorist can't go wrong if they're thrown into a Burberry-filled wardrobe.
Romeo Beckham rekindled my interest towards this brand. He was clad in a vividly vibrant jacket. How rare of Burberry. They seem to waver towards a more daring approach finally. Unfortunately, one can't simply strut around Singapore with vibrant and glossily alluring jackets or trench coats. Singapore's sweltering weather doesn't permit it unless you're willing to shed gazillions of calories in a pungent manner.
Famous for its checks, Burberry has renamed itself as a fashion bag nowadays with its new 'in' designs featuring its checks in a more sophisticated manner. Its leather is lasting and it doesnt scratch easily, and the simple checks seem to match almost every outfit that I wear as my wardrobe is usually plain.
Apart from its checks, it also has various other loves that have surfaced in the market in recent times, like that of the plain looking patent wallets and classy black bags. Although the Burberry in Singapore brings in alot of ranges, there are still some that they do not carry, to my disappointment. But the staff at the Singapore Burberry stores are usually very polite and they would always offer additional help, to whatever is within their range of work. I really appreciate good service on parts of them, and even on follow ups after the purchase.
Burberry clothing are also rather over priced, although the fitting and material is superb.
