Really expensive but I still like it.

I used to work beside the MOF at Nex, and often get free ice cream, leftovers or wrong orders from their staff. That was usually my only chance to enjoy their food as it was really really expensive. It still is, but I guess when I grow older and became more exposed to the world, I'm more willing to spend once in a while. Their ice cream and desserts are really satisfying and I was so lucky to have them free.

Recently, I went there for this Japanese hotpot with my friends, it was really good but still it may be a bit too expensive. It was buffet though and everything is self service(take all you want) so we could eat to our hearts content. Except it was a pity we could only have the soup base ordered once, and when it's finished we can only refill the basic ones.

Not really worth the expensive prices

I think that MOF is one of the few rather overpriced Japanese restaurants in Singapore. I don't think the quality of the food warrants such a high price but since it seems to have so many customers all the time I might be the only one who thinks so. I think what's good about MOF is that they have a Western side to it with the icecream and all. In fact they have two menus, one specially for desserts. The icecream isn't too bad; it has quite a few exotic flavours if I didn't recall wrongly but being the conventional me I am I avoided it. My friends seemed to really like them though!

I only order the salmon dishes when I go to Japanese restaurants and I think the sashimi at MOF was slightly above average. For the price however, I guess it was okay. Actually only certain parts of the menu were overpriced. For normally expensive items like sashimi, the prices were pretty much constant with other restaurants. I've been there twice and each time I feel so much poorer after. I don't think I'll visit it anytime soon unless I get a windfall.

Different memory

My memory of this place will be very different from many of you. I remembered once when I was visiting MOF at Bugis Junction. I brought my second son with me. At that time, he should be around four years old.

That day, I ordered either a salmon sushi or salmon sashimi, I could not remember exactly which. When the food was served, my boy was very quick to grab something from the plate. He was so quick that I did not see what he grab. But I saw his face changed expression and he quickly spitted something out.

Guessed what he grabbed? He grabbed the wasabi. MOF presented their wasabi in a ball besides the food, my boy must have thought that it was a special fish ball or some sweets, that was why he grabbed it so fast. It was lucky that my boy was quick to spit out the wasabi. Taking that much of wasabi at one go may cause brain damage, I think. Imagine the sensation of something rushing to your brain when you are eating a bit of wasabi, what will it be like to eat a whole wasabi ball? The sensation may knock you out.

Really really REALLY expensive.

The general ambience of this place is pleasant, not being too dark like many Japanese restaurants try to be. Neither is it glaringly bright and nauseating. When I went there, there was a general pleasant buzz that was neither too loud or chillingly silent. So essentially, excellent ambience.

Their main attraction would definitely be their desserts. Their baked mochi in azuki is blindingly excellent, with the mochi melting in your mouth as you bite into it. The slight bitterness of the baked skin is pleasantly offset by the sweetness of the azuki, leading to a complex flavour that blends well.

However, their main dishes are somewhat disappointing, with the portions being really small. The salmon with rice in a hot stone pot was not hot, which is more than a little disappointing. Furthermore, they are all rather expensive. Not really worth it. Stick to their desserts and you'll be fine.

Expensive but pleasant.

I went to MOF at Jurong Point a few days ago to have a simple dinner with my friends. The ambience and atmosphere is good, but the service isn't. Even though the restaurant is not packed with customers or there are a lot of people waiting in line, but the servers keep ask us if they can collect back the plates (It's as if they are trying to "chase" us away in my point of view.)

Yes, there are a wide variety of food there and you will take a very long time to decide what to settle for. However, I went to MOF in Bugis and I had my best dining experience there. Servers polite and kind, etc. So I guess the main problem is the attitude of the serves in Jurong Point, but definitely not the food.

Mostly valued for the desserts but there's still more to it

I'm an extreme Japanese foodie who dines Japanese cuisine at least twice to thrice a week.

Got my first try of MOF My Izakaya at the Bugis Junction branch, after a long day of shopping. Since many people have reviewed about their deserts, I'll talk about some other food then.

I fancied their salad options, having almost 10 different types and they do serve them in mini sizes for a quick snack. While I still prefer the sashimi salad at Sushi Tei, the options at MOF provides me with a greater variety. My favorite salad would be the wasabi seafood one, with the wasabi dressing not too choking and the fresh seafood sashimi (not a huge portion of them but that's perhaps due to me ordering the mini one) contemplates with each other perfectly.

I rather dislike the outlay of the restaurant though for I find the tables to be too cramped to each other. I doubt there's any way for me to make a statement without the couple beside to hear me and that's telling you how cramped the place is.

Other than that, I would always find a reason to return to MOF My Izakaya, especially now that they have a branch opened nearer to me at Tampines One.

Love the desserts

I have eaten at MOF My Izakaya several times, and it has yet to disappoint me. Service is excellent, the crew is efficient and food is served quickly. Their menu is wonderfully designed, bright and colorful, making all the dishes look extra appetizing.

Their desserts are the highlight, as almost all the desserts I have tried taste great. I especially love their macha and black sesame flavored ice cream, which tastes good even without any toppings. Their Macha Zen, which is a combination of azuki beans and macha ice cream, is highly recommended. The price may be slightly above average, but I can assure you that it is worth every cent. Will definitely return for desserts!

Great japanese desserts

Eating at MOF is always such a treat because their desserts are such a delicacy. Although a little pricey, it is definitely worth your money on the occasional indulgence. Eating it doesn't make you feel unhealthy as well as their ingredients are so fresh and MOF has the philosophy of adding no chemicals, preservatives or coloring additives.

I love taking the time to choose what to eat since all their desserts have such gorgeous presentations and are so colorful. I especially like anything with their green tea ice cream, black sesame ice cream, azuki or mochi. My friend who typically hates red beans simply love their azuki as well. It made her willing to give red beans a chance again!

good desserts

My friends and I went to MOF for a gathering on a Saturday night at the Suntec CIty branch. Their menu is rather impressive as they have a wide array of food, ranging from ramen to rice to hotpots. I was in a mood for some rice and so I ordered a chicken teriyaki rice. The presentation of the food was professional. The rice was served in a bento lunchbox set. Though it was a weekend and the restaurant was pretty crowded, the staff took down my special order for my rice to come without onions. I was delighted that my rice came the way I wanted it to be. The rice was alright though I thought that they should be more generous with the teriyaki sauce. Nothing special about the rice but it was yummy nevertheless.

For desserts, I ordered the Hokkaido red bean after much persuasion from my friends. I am not a fan of red bean soups but the red bean dessert at MOF surprised me! It was cold, sweet and thick. With a few mochi balls at the side, it complemented the dessert very well.

I think I would be back at MOF to try out their other dishes and for their Hokkaido red bean dessert.

Mediocre

I have been to MOF a few times with my friend(s) for dinner. Although I have a friend who really loves MOF, MOF fails to leave a lasting impression on me.

I am a self-proclaimed Japanese food lover, and in relative comparison to the Japanese food from other restaurants that I have eaten, MOF's food is mediocre at best. I have tried a few of MOF's bentos, and although the bentos manage to satisfy the stomach, they are not particularly delicious. I have also tried the Chicken Cutlet curry rice at MOF, but the chicken slices are a little too stiff, and can be difficult to chew. The curry is average; not exactly mouth-wateringly delicious, but not bad-tasting either.

The service at MOF, however, is prompt and quick, which I feel is one of MOF's redeeming factors. Food is served up quickly, and the staff are efficient and polite.

The prices at MOF are affordable, cheap in comparison to other Japanese restaurants selling similar food.

The affordability of MOF will definitely keep me coming back to it whenever I run out of ideas on what to eat. Although the food is mediocre, at least it does not taste bad, and the good service makes up for it.
