Sushi Tei takes their Japanese cuisine seriously. You can be expected to be served with the best and only the best at Sushi Tei. Be pampered like a (Japanese) royal when at Sushi Tei.
Sushi Tei offers quality sashimi and seafood which is undeniably fresh - sweet while it melts in your mouth. Additionally, their sushi ups the notch and are incomparable with Sakae sushi or Genki sushi. They're warm and perfect - packed with the right amount of rice and filling, and comes in a great variety of other delicious flavours. Best of all, there is great consistency in the preparation of food by Sushi Tei. They really do not compromise on the quality amidst the large flurry of customers.
The waiters and waitresses are highly efficient and attentive to your needs. They're quick witted and flexible. The ambience at Sushi Tei is also great despite housing a large number of people. Their restaurant is not as "echoey" as compared to other restaurants.
Best sushi in Singapore
To me, my most all time craved for Japanese cuisine would be Sushi Tei. My friends and I went to the outlet at Serangoon gardens for my friend's 21st birthday and we did not regret it one bit! We sat near the conveyor belt, where the chefs could be seen preparing the sashimi and sushi. It was a weekend night so it was a tad crowded and we had to wait awhile before getting seats.
We ordered our all time favourite Golden Phoenix Roll and Dragon, which is made up of sushi wrapped with unagi or ebi topped off with mango. I loved the collagen aburi salmon roll too! The salmon was half cooked, so it would not taste so raw to people who do not fancy sashimi. The slices of salmon were thick and succulent, they simply melt in your mouth! In addition, we also ordered the cheesy scallops. They are definitely for the cheese lovers! The portion of the scallops was big as well, hence it would be a great side dish to be shared with friends. We also had bento boxes and ramen too, which were not fantastic in my opinion. I suggest that you spam sushi when you visit Sushi Tei, as their sushi is really one of a kind! Much better than many japanese restaurants, I would say. The thought of the sushi is making me salivate this very instant.
For the outlet at Serangoon gardens, it is quite spacious but if you are eating in a big group, I suggest that you make reservations before going as it can get quite crowded at night. I will definitely be back again to have the authentic and delicious sushi!

Atas Japanses food for everybody
Sushi Tei is a Japanese restaurant that brings higher-end Japanese dining to the mass market. The food is more expensive than the typical Japanese restaurant such as ichiban, but not prohibitively so.
The food meets your expectations for the price that you pay for it. Their sushi cannot compare with the best from Itacho or Genki, but their huge Sushi Tei special rolls are the best. Their Golden Roll is delicious, and you can pair it with their Shoyu Ramen to complete the meal.
Order the Sashimi Salad with Sushi Tei sauce. Do it.
Sushi Tei is one of those restaurants that serve Japanese cuisine at near-complete authencity, and since young has always been a place associated with treats in my mind.
A must-order is their Sashimi Salad which comes with plump cubes of fresh raw fish. Choose the Sushi Tei sauce and you’ll be presented with a refreshing and tart salad that makes for a perfect appetiser. The Salmon Oyako Spicy Roll is another dish that will please your palate. With plump sushi rice that wraps crispy salmon skin, topped with aburi salmon, every bite promises a texturally engaging experience.
There was once I tried the Tan Tan Don, and I was not impressed. It tasted like normal rice topped with minced meat that you can probably get at a fraction of the price from a hawker centre. Nonetheless, there are many other dishes that make it worth a trip!
Tasty Japanese Fare of Phenomenal Quality
My family and I recently tried Sushi Tei for the very first time. We'd never felt compelled to dine here previously because the prices seem rather exorbitant, but we're all so glad to have tried it and the food turned out to be well worth the money.
You can't go wrong with a nice bowl of ramen of Japanese curry rice, but I'd suggest having more fun with the sides and ordering something new and exciting. We got ourselves the pork belly wrap deep fried with crunchy vegetable strips and plenty of hot, oozing cheese. It was so sinfully good.
For desserts, go for the cute and yummy ice cream, red bean and shiratama balls sandwiched in a pretty biscuit shell. The ice cream flavour and quality was top notch! I was very impressed indeed.
Sadly, the service quality does tend to drop a bit especially when it gets hectic during peak hours of the day. I don't blame them though, the crowds can get rather out of hand and it can be a frazzling experience so I'd cut them some slack and just focus on enjoying the wonderful food.
A Notch Above the Rest
Out of all the sushi restaurants in Singapore, Sushi Tei is my family's favourite, and for good reason. At our favourite outlet in Paragon, the restaurant is spacious, with large tables and cushy seats perfect for a family lunch. Even though the lighting is slightly dim, it sets the atmosphere for an enjoyable meal.
My personal favourite is the kaki mentai sushi - fried oyster wrapped in rice and topped with delicious mentaiko sauce. This was the very sushi which sparked off my love affair for mentaiko, otherwise known as spicy cod roe; during every single visit, it is the first thing I'd order from the menu. Apart from sushi, Sushi Tei also offers your typical Japanese dishes, such as udon and rice, all of which are well-made.
I'd highly recommend this restaurant to everyone, from cozy dates to family lunches.
Affordable, tasty Japanese food
It's no secret that Sushi Tei is my family's favourite Japanese restaurant. The food is affordable, quality is consistent and service is efficient (most of the time, at least). Compared to other family-friendly Japanese chains that I shall not name, Sushi Tei is definitely a level higher.
I always get the same few dishes when I visit. Every three months, Sushi Tei launches a seasonal promotion menu in line with what produce is fresh and in-season. Currently, they have their Winter Hokkaido 2013 menu, and we ordered the Penthouse Salmon Roll ($12) which was a avocado, salmon and egg roll. The salmon was lightly torched, reminiscent of aburi salmon, and we opted for no wasabi mayo because we are wasabi-wimps.
I ordered a warm Sansai Soba ($10). The soba noodles were decent, not as good as Shimbashi Soba, but tasted alright in a salty shoyu soup base. It was served warm with Japanese mountain vegetables which I honestly do not know the names of, but were cooked well and had a nice crunch. The portion of noodles was very generous, and I couldn't finish it.
Teriyaki Chicken ($8) took a while to arrive, but it was executed decently. The chicken thigh was freshly grilled and had delicious char marks, but we could taste that the chicken had been frozen and thawed. That's to be expected of a chain restaurant though, and I have nothing against frozen meat.
The only thing I can fault Sushi Tei with would be that they don't have sets that come with soup, appetizer, rice, main dish etc. like their competitors, but it's not something I pick on, especially when their a la carte dishes are executed relatively well for the price point. It's worth noting that the homegrown brand has expanded overseas as well, such as to Indonesia and Australia, and are doing quite well.
Overall, a very affordable, family-friendly Japanese chain that serves up decent food. Nothing spectacular or super authentic, but definitely enough to satisfy a hungry stomach.
Not as good as perceived
In my opinion, Sushi Tei is just the average Japanese buffet restaurant. I don't really fancy their food and find their sushi a little over-priced. There's not much variety to begin with as well.
A few times when I patronized, I received really bad service, in terms of an extremely long waiting time (it wasn't really crowded that time), semi-cold food and a few wrong orders.
It took them awhile to rectify the problem too. Since then, unless my friends have a serious craving for only Sushi Tei would I comply and dine there. Otherwise, I'd recommend Japanese restaurants that can easily win them hands down.
Slow service, not so good food
Sushi Tei always gave me the impression of good quality sushi at fairly affordable prices. However, the branch opened at Bedok Point has left me disappointed time and again.
Firstly, the service there is undeniably slow and inefficient. They clearly are in serious need of staff. Despite there being an abundance of available seats, we always find ourselves waiting to be seated simply because no one is available to serve us.
Secondly, the quality of sushi is deteriorating as the ingredients are not fresh and the portion is somehow decreasing in size along with its staff count (haha).
Thirdly, moving back to service again, the waiting time for your food if you order instead of simply removing them off the conveyor belt at that particular branch will leave you frustrated, annoyed and displeased.
Sushi Tei is a nice restaurant that serves some good Japanese food, but the branch at Bedok Point simply does not offer a similar experience.
Pretty good ramen!
Have been to Sushi Tei on a few occasions, and I would always order their ramen. Their beef ramen is really nice. The beef is tender and easy to chew on, and the ramen base is tasty! Probably my favourite dish there.
I have also tried their chicken katsu ramen, which is also pretty nice, but I'd still settle for the beef ramen instead, because I think it tastes nicer together. The chicken katsu is served separately, because it wouldn't taste nice if soaked into the soup, thus it is more like I am eating two separate things. Have also tried the chicken katsu don. Not bad, but have tried better (and cheaper), so nothing worth praising.
Not a fan of sushi or sashimi, so I've never tried any here. I have a friend who loves their salmon sashimi though!
I always notice that the queues at nex and Vivo City can be really long, but I've always eaten at the outlets at Orchard (Paragon and Takashimaya), which have no queue. In fact, the outlet at Paragon was almost empty when I visited. Perhaps it was because it was off peak hours? But I guess the queues speak for themselves: Sushi Tei is no doubt a good choice for a casual Japanese meal!
Quality Japanese Food
Sushi Tei is one of the most popular Japanese restaurants in Singapore that is known to serve quality food in a great ambience. The setting of the restaurant has quite a Japanese influence, with wooden tables and seats and decorations that add to the entire Japanese feel of the place.
Staff are usually very attentive and efficient and even though most of the times that I visited Sushi Tei were during peak hours, our orders came very quickly and new orders that we made while dining also arrived quite fast.
The presentation and taste of the food is more authentic than most casual Japanese diners. Because of this higher quality, you will also notice that the prices at Sushi Tei are slightly higher than other more casual Japanese restaurants (for example Sakae Sushi). However, you pay for what you get and at a slightly higher price, you get food and service of higher quality.
I would suggest dining at Sushi Tei during off peak hours if possible. The queue can get quite long during peak hours and you can expect to wait up to 25 minutes for an available table. Also note that they do not take reservations. One thing you can do is to request for the menu while queueing and decide what to eat so that when you are finally seated, you can order right away.
forget sakae, support sushi tei
Sushi Tei is fast becoming one of my favourite Japanese restaurant in Singapore! Frankly speaking, I am not particular when it comes to Japanese food. I can settle for anything. I am perfectly fine with places such as Ajitsen Ramen or Sakae Sushi. I am not one of those fanatics who are constantly in search of the most “authentic” ramen/Japanese food in Singapore. However, ever since I've tried Sushi Tei, places like sakae sushi are totally incomparable.
Sushi Tei always has this really long queue during lunch hour. Therefore, I decided to visit their Raffles City Shopping Centre outlet last week. Despite the long queue, we were lucky to get seated in a short time. You tend to get your seats faster if you are fine with the bar seats. Our food took us quite a while to be served however, it is well worth the time. Usually, I would order the sushi directly from the staff instead of getting from the sushi belt as I feel that the sushi will be a tad fresher.
Whenever I visit Sushi Tei, I will order their udon. They have a wide variety of udon at really affordable prices ($12 - $18) and you can choose from a spicy miso base or the normal miso base. Without fail, I will always wipe clean the soup. The serving is just nice for me, not overly big or small. I can still afford to have one or two sushi after my bowl of udon.
