Crazy 1-for-1 Weekday Lunch Deals!!
La Nonna is a lovely Italian restaurant near the edge of Lorong Mambong, serving traditional Italian fare in a cosy, rustic setting. I love the pizza and pastas at La Nonna, but I always felt like the prices were out of my budget. However, I discovered their Weekday 1-for-1 lunch orders last year.
Head down to La Nonna on weekdays from 12.30pm-2pm to catch their lunch deal, which covers all their mains, pastas and pizza. They don’t skimp on their portion sizes either, and you’ll get the full serving of pasta or pizza at almost 50% off the original price! I always head down on Fridays with my friends, and we’ll order pizzas to share. Get their signature La Nonna pizza ($23) which comes with black truffle and an egg in the centre, or give their indulgent Quattro Formaggi ($23) a try.
2 pizzas can be split between 3 people, or if you’re feeling especially ravenous, go all out and get a pizza each. Even so, you’ll only be paying for half the price of a regular pizza. This deal is fantastic if you’re looking for high-quality Italian cuisine on a tight budget. Authentic handmade pastas and pizzas have never come cheaper.
Pricey pizzas, but good enough to make you come back
La Nonna is my safety blanket. I know that if I can never find something that I fancy in Holland Village, it will always be there to welcome me into their arms and fill me with delicious Italian cuisine. I am yet to go at lunch to take advantage of their 1-for-1 deals, but even without this I am a big fan.
I have had both pizza as well as lasagne, both of which I loved, and I was especially impressed with the hearty sized portion of the lasagne, which for a girl who loves to eat like me, was a welcome sight. Service was okay, but if you get put outside not only is it humid but you often get forgotten about and the whole process becomes rather slow. Also if you’re in a group, don’t even think about trying to split the bill. We attempted and failed miserably on something that all restaurants should really be able to do quickly and easily.
It’s not the kind of food that you would lose your mind over, but it’s the type of place that you will happily return to. The food is also a little bit pricey for simple Italian food, but I love knowing that it’s always there waiting for my return, and that I will always leave satisfied.
Friendly service, delicious food
Actually I have never heard of that place before, but he wanted to have dinner in Holland V and I whipped up the trusty Entertainer app and saw the restaurant and so we decided to go for it.
Apparently it is quite popular among the expats and we weren't able to get a seat inside because they were reserved by other people. Anyway, we got ourselves pasta and lasagne, they also gave us a complimentary basket of bread and the smiley olive oil :D
Didn't take a picture of the lasagne, because.. it is lasagne lol. Though the bf said it was delicious and he wanted to go back again. I had Linguine Pasta served with Crab Meat in Tomato Cream sauce and Basil ($25 before Entertainer's discount). This was my first crab meat pasta and I must say it can get really additive. For a moment I was worried that they use the fake crab meat in the pasta, but nah, it was all real. Would love to try the aglio oilo next time!
Since we saved quite a bit from the 1-for-1 deals, we decided to get tiramisu as well ($12). Sorry about the crappy photo, was too excited about tiramisu to care too much. Unfortunately this wasn't as good as I expected, the layer of cocoa power was too thick and I kinda have to scrap them off the cake. Overall a great place and I will visit again!
Simple Homey Italian Food in the Heart of Holland Village!
We arrived at La Nonna on a typical Sunday afternoon. Located in Holland Village, La Nonna was not particularly crowded and we decided to give it a try.
Service and Ambience:
This cosy restaurant only has a private space upstairs meant for 40 people, but for much of the lazy evening, only the ground floor was available, which can accommodate 20 indoor patrons. Thus, despite the lack of customers on this particular visit, I recommend making reservations to avoid disappointment.
If you’re expecting a restaurant with dedicated Italian chefs then this shouldn’t be the place. But if you are looking for a simple yet comforting wood-fired pizza, and attentive, friendly staff, this place is quite perfect.
We were not particularly hungry, so we just settled to share a pizza. Their signature pizza, aptly named the “La Nonna” (S$23), features tomatoes, mozzarella, parmesan, asparagus and a sunny side up egg right in the middle, sprinkled with black truffle.
The crust was perfect – crispy on the edges, chewy in the centre, and all the flavours complemented each other very well.
Overall, a great Italian restaurant, cosy place, lovely wood fired pizzas and we’ll be back to try the pastas! ☺
P.S. Do check out their daily specials, and they have an amazing weekday lunch deal 1-for-1 pasta/pizza/mains!
