Fine dining for royalty
With my very first step into the restaurant, there was no doubt that Forlino was a place for the rich upperclassmen, or for the fine-dining enthusiasts. The floors are lined with sparkly clean and polished marble tiles, and the walls are painted in an artichoke green which screams “royal”.
Forlino consists of two parts – the bar outside the restaurant, and the restaurant itself. There are even sofas at the bar for you to lounge on if you are waiting for someone, and magazines to browse through as well. Food wise, the prices were steep (as expected), but the Salted Caramel Lava Cake was what made the trip worthwhile. The warm cake is pleasantly complemented with cold vanilla ice cream and a small portion of cereal. As the waitress slices the cake, a stream of hot caramel oozes out and the sweet aroma can be detected instantly. Every bite is a mix of sweet and savoury flavours. The cake itself was slightly chewy and had an amazing, moist texture. To my great delight, it did not crumble in my mouth.
Forlino is a place you can bring your girlfriend to, as it has a great view and romantic ambience, especially at night when each table is lit with candles. Forlino is also open for event bookings, such as weddings or birthdays, but do note that the prices are a little on the high side.
I have nothing but praises for Forlino. I celebrated my 18th birthday at this restaurant, booking a private room for a celebration with some of my closest friends. It was quite possibly one of the best experiences in my young life.
The waiter was extremely patient with us, probably knowing that we are new to fine dining, and gently recommended dishes to try out. My favourite has to be the foie gras - it remains to this day one of the best that I have ever tried - and I have been to France. Wine selection was also a breeze, no thanks to the friendly waiter yet again.
Although prices may be a bit on the high side here, especially if you order champagne/wine, I would strongly recommend Forlino. Definitely worth a visit.
Fine Dining with a Fine View
Had lunch at Forlino with my boyfriend a few months back after buying the 3-course set meal deal from one of the bulk buying websites. There was not a crowd on a Saturday afternoon so the restaurant was quiet and pretty romantic, I'd say.
The main dishes are amazing, and so are the desserts. The scenery from the window seat is stunning as it overlooks Marina Bay sands and I'm sure it would look even more stunning during the night.
The service is alright but nothing special. The staff were not extremely attentive and were always leaning against the door on the other side of the room.
Nevertheless, I would come back for a good Italian meal.
