The cafe that seems to have everything

Supply can’t seem to meet demand at this immensely popular Orchard Road Cafe. If you go on Friday nights and weekends, be prepared to queue.

The big draw of this place is the unique menu. You usually get western food at a cafe, but here you also get classic Singaporean delights like Satay, Spring Rolls and Otak-Otak. You can also head up the peninsular and get some Thai food too.

We all love a good poached egg. That’s why every cafe can be judged by the quality of their eggs benedict. However, that’s too mainstream for this cafe. You can get your poached eggs on a pizza instead at Supply and Demand

Come here only if you're willing to wait

I visited Supply & Demand on a Monday evening with a prior reservation made for 7pm. We were seated the moment we arrived and we proceeded to place our order within 10 minutes. By 8pm, only one of our two main dishes had arrived.

It was pretty full for a Monday night and it was obvious the restaurant was understaffed. The table next to ours received their pizza relatively quickly but had to wait for their pasta that arrived about 20 minutes later. By the time the second main arrived my dish was so cold I had to ask them to heat it up for me.

The staff compensated us by giving us ONE scoop of ice-cream to share between the two of us. It was meant to be Bak Kwa flavour, but it tasted more like the wax on the bak kwa than it did of bak kwa itself. It was a kind gesture on the restaurant's part but my friend and I barely touched half the ice-cream.

That being said, the food is pretty decent, but I recommend coming here only if you have a lot of time to spare.

Menu full of pasta

Supply & Demand is only of the newly opened eateries in Orchard Gateway. There is always a queue especially during dinner time, even on weekdays. But it is great that they offer reservations.

Their menu is very extensive and its comprises mostly of pasta and pizzas. The first time I went, they were newly opened and the carbonara that I had was bad. There was a sour aftertaste and I wasn't too sure if it was meant to taste like that or the ingredients turned bad. Brought it up to their manager who was going around getting customer's feedback and she mentioned that they were trying out a new chef that evening. Decided to give Supply and Demand a second chance and this time round, I truly enjoyed my experience, except for their service though. More on that later. We ordered a 2 flavours in 1 pizza ($3 top up) with a morning after and truffle and egg. I was pleasantly surprised to see 2 eggs on my pizza as initially I thought that they would only give one egg in the middle of the pizza. So I guess the $3 top up was a pretty decent deal. The pizza was freshly made and it was delish! The pasta that we ordered pancetta e fungi was good too! Abit too creamy for my liking but it is good to share! Point to note is that the tasting size is really really not worth it. The bowl is so tiny it looks like a bowl of soup instead. We also ordered a serving of truffle fries. Their fries are thick cut but generously drizzled with truffle. I have yet to try their desserts but I heard that they are pretty good too. The next visit perhaps?

On to their service. We were warned that dinner times are very busy and since it was a last minute decision to dine there, we decided to go there earlier to avoid the long queues. The restaurant opens at 6pm for dinner. We arrived at 615 to see that the restaurant is still closed for lunch and staff are in the restaurant sitting around. There was already a queue forming outside but the servers were still chatting. They finally let us in at 625. During our meal, the servers came over to our tables thrice to check if we were done with our dinner. There was still food left on our plates but the servers offered to clear it up for us three times, even though we were not done yet. Not sure if over enthusiastic or trying to chase us out as there was a long queue forming outside. A rather stressful dining experience. However, the ambiance there is very cozy, perfect for a date night or a catch up session with friends.
