Marble Slob Creamery
If I loved Island Creamery and Cold Stone Creamery, then Marble Slab Creamery shouldn’t be too bad, right? Well, that hadn’t been the case.
Struck with cravings for ice-cream and waffles at J8 but with only Haagan Dazs and Marble Slab to choose from, I obviously went for the more affordable option. As always, I got the hazelnut flavour - Chocolate Hazelnut Nutella, which was unexceptional in comparison to every hazelnut flavoured ice-cream I’ve ever had. The waffles were outstanding though - but not in a good way. They were an unappetizing yellow, lacked any crisp, and quickly turned soggy as the ice-cream melted.
From then on, I’ve pretty much steered clear of Marble Slab. If you’re ever visiting, do not spend your money on their waffles - maybe try their cones and ice-cream cakes, though.
First but surely not the last time
Not a major huge fan of ice-cream but I decided to give Marble Slab a try after being enticed by their $13.80 offer which includes three scoops of ice-cream and a waffle, and I am left without any regrets! Ordered these three flavours: thai milk tea, creme bulee as well as salted caramel (no one can ever resist salted caramel). The ice-cream was served to our table, although we had thought that it was supposed to be collected at the counter.
Tried it at the Causeway Point outlet which wasn't as spacious as I had liked it to be, but the food certainly made up for it. Large group of friends might want to visit a different outlet instead! For first-timers, I highly recommend the thai milk tea flavour which has a strong and lasting taste. Don't forget to get an order of their waffles, its definitely worth trying!
I'm more a fan of gelato than ice-cream because they're indefinitely much more healthier and yummy but I decided to try out Marble Slab at a friend's request due to her undying love for this particular ice-cream store.
I got myself one of their signature creations: Strawberry Cheesecake, in a cup whilst my friend ordered a self-mixed version of peanut butter and cookie dough. I was surprised it was difficult to find a table after ordering as it was a Thursday evening. Probably it was because we were at the Orchard Central outlet. Nevertheless, it's a good idea to have someone seated before ordering so you don't walk around awkwardly while the expensive ice-cream melts away in your hands.
At first try, it was surprisingly sweet. I've tried this flavor at other ice-cream vendors before and they usually come across as the not-so-sweet alternative, compared to double chocolate, cotton candy and the likes. It was so sweet it had me cringing and it's not like I'm a hater of all things sweet. Recommended for those with a really sweet tooth. Do drink plenty of water after!
Ice Cream Dream
I love heading to Marble Slab because firstly I am spoilt for choice with the wide array of flavours. Not to mention, most of these flavours aren't your everyday chocolate, strawberry or vanilla basics. My personal favourite is butter pecan! And what's the best thing about going to Marble Slab? I get to watch my favourite ice cream flavors being mixed with my chosen toppings! (same as Cold Stone I know) Coming up with your own ice cream concoctions and excitedly having your first taste of it is definitely a bonus for me (:
So far, I've been very happy with my chosen mix and haven't tasted any weird combinations. Well, even if you do, it was your choice and nobody would judge you for it!
Ambience wise, its not too bad. I went to the outlet at JCUBE and they normally play upbeat party tracks that you hear at the club, which can be rather disruptive if you are trying to catch up with a friend. But you could always choose to sit nearer to the railings, where you'll be greeted by a view of the ice skating rink. Not a regular view you can get from any mall in Singapore.
Damn.. Writing this review has awaken my craving for some good ol' marble slab!
Marble Slab Creamery is amongst my favourites in Singapore. They serve quirky flavours that never fail to disappoint. The last time I went to Marble Slab, my friends and I each got two scoops of icecream. In between spoonfuls, my friend couldn't stop exclaiming about how she could taste the true flavour of the ingredients. (She ordered butter pecan) I had ordered blackberry and the intense blackberry flavour really sent me back to the times I would pick blackberries in England as a child.
However, the downside is definitely the ambiance. The furniture isn't what one would exactly call attractive and for the price that you're paying for the icecream you'd think they'd have better furniture. But if you're going to take away then it doesn't matter.
But the flavours and textures are wonderful, definitely worth trying and going back for more. I know I will!
Great Ice cream, Lousy decor
I would say that if you love ice cream, you will love this place especially if you take it away. But if you are eating in, you cannot help but notice that you are paying premium ice cream prices but dining in an army cookhouse ambience. The chairs are plastic, the tables feel flimsy. The outlet at Causeway Point has an eating space that is very cramped.
That would the biggest factor that prevents it from getting top marks. The ice cream however, is a totally different story altogether. You know that you are paying for quality the moment you taste it. I personally love the flavor Sweet Cream, simply because I love the taste of cream. Here I can only imagine how much cream is used to make the ice cream. There's no cutting of corners.
You get some weird flavours like Bubble Gum or Cotton Candy but if weird is your thing, give it a go. You'll probably end up loving it more than this purist.
I first tried Marble Slab at J Cube with a female friend. She couldn't believe I have never tried this particular ice cream brand, and insisted that I try it, leaving me slightly bemused. I didn't really get the fuss, until I took my first bite.
The texture of the ice cream is really something else (I tried chocolate). Even though I have sampled many kinds of desserts, I felt that this one could have took the cake (no pun intended), if they tweaked it just a little. I have no idea how the ice cream at Marble Slab is made, but it seems that one side of my ice cream tends to melt faster than the other, causing me to have to eat as quickly as possible, giving me a slight case of brain-freeze. Perhaps the cooling system in the mall is at fault eh?
Despite that, I would gladly suffer that again to get another cup of ice cream.
Truly truly scrumptious
I first tried Marble Slab Creamery at its Marina Bay Link Mall branch (which I believe does not exist anymore) and was pleasantly surprised. Marble Slab Creamery offers a wide selection of different flavours, including traditional chocolate and strawberry, and the less conventional flavours such as birthday cake. Being more adventurous with my taste buds, I opted for the birthday cake flavour. Each spoonful was delectable and luscious, almost sinfully delicious.
I’ve indulged my sweet tooth in the ice-cream there many more times since then and have not been disappointed. Marble Slab Creamery offers true decadence in every bite and although slightly more pricey, the ice-cream there is definitely worth a try.
Ice-cream by the ICE!
Personally I like the location of Marble Slab at Jcube cause it is just beside the ice skating rink! Of course, not all the seats are by the ice rink but we didn't really have to rush for seats since my friend and I went on a weekday.
The view was spectacular! Best seat in the house. For blind dates where you have no idea what to talk about, this is the place! Most of the time, we were just observing the people skating when we run out of topics.
Food wise, there is a great variety of flavours! You will find uncommon flavours such as Red Velvet (my personal favourite), cake flavour, Bandung and an array of chocolate flavours! There are also combo with waffles/biscuits too. Introduced my friend to this place and she loves it. Keep talking bout it and promoting to her friends!
Nice place to go to when you are with a group of friends.
Got to try my first flavours at Marble Slab Creamery not too long ago. Settled down with a few friends at the outlet t Bugis+ and ordered two medium sized cups, of which we were entitled to two flavours per cup. Ordered red velvet and gula melaka on one cup, and double dark chocolate and mint on the other.
I am usually a fan of strange, unique, and less common ice-cream flavours, so I thought I would prefer the former cup, but this time, I was addicted to the double dark chocolate more than the other three flavours. The chocolate was rich in taste, but not too sweet, and tasted much better than the average chocolate ice-cream. Red velvet tasted rather boring, except for a few mouths when I could taste cream cheese, and gula melaka tasted as it should taste. Mint tasted like...mint, although one of my friends especially liked this flavour.
The service there was friendly. Expect a good show as one of the server attempts to toss his ice-cream to another server who is positioned with a cup. Not too sure what would happen if it dropped somewhere else though.
I have definitely been to nicer and cheaper ice-cream parlours before, but Marble Slab Creamery is definitely a nice place to go to if you wanna have a seat with friends, a nice dessert, and a good chat.
