Indulgence at its finest.
Häagen-Dazs is, up till now, still my favourite brand of ice cream. I simply have never found another brand of ice cream as fulfilling as Häagen-Dazs.
The quality of their ice cream is simply stunning. The flavour is absolutely unique and it always boggles my mind how they come up with that certain taste which I can't find in any other brand of ice cream. This especially goes for the strawberry cheesecake one. Indulging in that is simply my sweetest sin every month. There's a milky taste in it that immerses your tongue with a creamy taste and its texture is great. The ice cream melts in your mouth gradually and it doesn't feel like you're eating iced, flavoured water as many other brands seem to advocate. It's soft, smooth and feels like perfection when running through your mouth.
The downside, as expected, is its cost. It is basically a stab to the wallet for even the smallest of tubs.
I've always considered Haagen Dazs ice cream to be vastly over-priced. And I still believe I'm right on that account, although there are time when pampering yourself to luxury isn't such a bad idea after all.
My first experience with Haagen Dazs was at their Holland Village outlet, which I find more posh and classy than the rest I've seen. The comfortable and soft armchairs coupled with the prompt service made me feel like I was in a fine dining establishment. I had a serving of their Strawberry Cheesecake, and I fell in love with it shortly after my first bite... No kidding! There is no better Strawberry Cheesecake ice-cream in the land! With actual chunks of real strawberry cheesecake mixed with their vanilla-strawberry flavour, this is certainly tasting the ultimate in premium ice-cream!
Worth the splurge
Haagen Dazs is associated with luxury. And why shouldn't it be? Everything from the ambience to the actual ice cream itself oozes poshness. My favourite outlets are at the Esplanade and the one at Vivocity. If you happen to pop into the Vivocity outlet, do choose a seat outside. It is on the terrace so you can enjoy the view of the sea and listen to the sounds of the waves as you indulge in your luxurious ice cream.
They always have divine combinations to choose from and if you're having a hard time deciding, just go for the single scoop ice creams. That way, you can try different flavours from your friends' bowls too. Recommendations would be creme brulee and spiced caramel biscuit. Dont worry about the price, you're worth it.
Visit their holland village outlet!
Usually, I would try to avoid Haagen Daaz for sweet treats. I feel that their desserts are way overpriced for the serving and the taste. The last time I had Haagen Daaz was a couple of months ago at their Holland Village outlet. I I love the setting and ambience at this outlet, vastly different from the other outlets. Haagen Daaz at Holland Village has big comfortable red velvet plush arm chairs, beautifully decorated interiorly. It is a perfect place for some weekend gathering with friends or girls night out.
My friends and I (about 8 of us) ordered their fondue which cost us about $45++!! Yes. The picture looks extremely delectable from PICTURES in their menu. When the fondue was served, we were still ahh and oohing over the presentation of the fondue. After a while, it dawned on us that it is way over priced. There are about 10 scoops of ice cream – BITE SIZED (or maybe smaller) . With just a pop into your mouth, the ice cream is gone. Other sides to dip with chocolate fondue include some cookies, chocolate sticks, fruits and marsh mellows. How in the world a few pieces of fruit, cookies, marsh mellows and 10 BITE SIZED ice cream can cost us over $45! I am definitely not returning back there again for their ice creams are mediocre in my point of view. With this kind of price and taste, I rather spend the money on udders ice cream.
Great for the Occasional indulgence
There is no denying that the ice cream Haagen Daz puts on sale is priced at a premium over the other brands, but I don't mind paying the price for the occasional indulgence. I'm not the one with a sweet tooth, so naturally I usually go here with friends, and the outlet at Tampines Mall is usually empty, to the point where it looks almost abandoned.
I have no issue with this of course, since I did come here for Ice Cream. I really enjoy their Macadania Flavor, with the variety of unique toppings available. The Ice Cream they serve is quite rich, so if you take your time and really savor the offerings, you might end up enjoying it on a deeper level as reversed to the other ice creams which are just blatantly sweet for the sake of being sweet.
Wouldn't dine here all the item, but once in a while is fine.
Premium quality ice-cream products
When I was little, my father had a Haagen Dazs membership card. He would get an ice-cream cake and lots of ice-cream every time my sister and my birthdays came around. That was a huge treat for us, to have expensive premium ice-cream!
Now that I'm older and that I've tried other ice-cream brands like Ben & Jerry's, Udders, and Swensen's, I still firmly believe that Haagen Dazs is at the top of the game. Their vanilla flavour is the best around - you can actually taste the vanilla bean, unlike other brands that artificially flavour their version.
Also look out for their ice-cream mooncakes every time Mooncake Festival comes around. They have interesting versions that can compete with the traditional ones that the hotels produce.
Overpriced ice creams
I believe everyone knows Haagen Dazs and the goodness of its ice creams. The flavors range from royal chocolate, strawberry, green tea, macadamia nut, mocca and more. Complimented with its comfortable sofa and dining area, I am sure that the customers can relax while enjoying the ice creams. Plain water is available upon request.
However, I feel that the ice creams are too expensive, even the take home packs. The price ranges from $5 and above for one scoop to over $20 for take away pack
Chocolate fondue is a popular choice here where you could choose different flavours of the ice cream balls and you can dip them into the chocolate melts. This might not be too great for the non-sweet tooth as it could be overly sweet and sticky.
For me, trying this ice cream once is enough as I could have tasted the same flavor at different places and at much affordable prices.
One of the MOST overrated and expensive brands I've ever seen!
I'm going to be brutally honest here.
Haagan Dazs is one of the most overrated and expensive ice-cream brands I've ever seen!
Granted that they have a wide selection of ice-creams to choose from their menu with an atas ambience, I do not really see anything special about the ice-creams. (Probably I am too used to eating those $1 ice-creams from those street trolleys)
I did not really spend a cent on their ice-cream as I had used up the vouchers I won from a contest to dine in at the Jurong Point branch. While looking through the menu, I was actually expecting much more than just the quality. I ordered a bowl of colorful scoops (based on the illustration photos shown on the menu) that consist of flavors such as mango, strawberry, etc.
No doubt that the presentation is nice, but the portion was so much smaller than what I had imagined. (It was not really true to the photos) The ice-cream tasted great, but not something out of the ordinary. Again, probably I was too used to those $1 trolley ice-creams that I do not really appreciate expensive brands when I see one.
I believe Haagan Dazs is a brand that is more suited for people who have higher budget and don't mind spending more to pamper themselves.
Not for me, I guess.
great macadamia flavour
Haagen Dazs is a a super expensive brand of ice cream. one standard tub cost about $20 dollar, and the small tub is about $5 to 6. And with such a high price, i would of course demand a much higher standard from them. Good to say, i may not find favour with every flavour. But there is still a few that i prefer.
My favourite is the macadamia flavour. The creamy white ice cream taste very rich and when the ice cream melts in your mouth, the macadamia flavour fills the mouth promptly and the aroma of the ice cream stays within the mouth even after a while. There are ample amount of nuts in the tub and every mouthful of the ice cream comes with enough nuts. I can usually finish one tub in one sitting, especially when the ice cream melts very fast under normal temperature. This is probably the only bad thing about it.
As for the other flavours, i do not find them very unique, as there were flavours found anywhere, but the richness and texture and taste of these other flavours are not still retained strongly. There could probably be more fillings in the ice cream such as choco chunks, or marshmallows, to add variety.
