I scream for ice cream (real cliched, I know)
I tried their Rum and Raisin and assorted Chocolate flavours - and immediately was a convert, despite really not having a penchant for shelling out money on ice cream. I did try it on sale, and I do recommend finding out when their sales are! The 1-for-1 deal left my family bringing home tubs of ice cream and having a few on the spot.
These ice creams seem to be lovingly handcrafted, with each flavour coming through beautifully. I take offence at false marketing - when ice cream stores try and market their products under one name, e.g. Strawberry Cheesecake, and you can't taste any cheesecake. This is not such a store - their products do actually taste exactly how they are named.
It helps that the store display is always so vibrant and eye-catching - perhaps the reason why I always find myself spending money on their ice-cream. Not good for the wallet or waistline, but good for the eyes (so colourful!) and tastebuds.
In my opinion, Gelato is as average as ice-cream gets. Their flavours are alright, I enjoyed their peanut butter flavour and oreo flavour! I've tried a few others as well but it didn't leave any impression whatsoever, so I guess you can say Gelato is just... ice-cream. They have two types of ice-cream, the premium flavours being a tad pricier and more exotic. Maybe when I give those a try I might think of Gelato more than it being just another ice cream store?
They do have great offers however! Got four scoops on two cones for about eight bucks, which was pretty reasonable I must say (or maybe because I expected it to be pricey). Their location is rather on-point though, it's tough not to give the brightly-lit ice cream store sitting in the middle of Westgate a second glance, especially if you've just had dinner and your second stomach starts demanding for dessert.
I was deeply intrigued by the unusual flavours of ice cream that Gelato had to offer, such as Cotton Candy, White Chocolate, Salted Caramel and others. I tried the White Chocolate myself, and although its colour resembles that of vanilla flavour, the taste is definitely much sweeter and there were hints of chocolate.
If you are unable to decide on a flavour, don't worry because you can taste a spoonful of each flavour and decide from there.
It costs about $5 for a single scoop of ice cream, and an additional 70cents for a cone. A good sweet treat to indulge in after doing your shopping.
