Ferrero Rocher gelato
Gelateria Italia is so visually pleasing that I never fail to stop by and check out their new flavors whenever I walk past. They have got a wide range of gelatos and are very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Their servers are very friendly and never fail to offer customers free samples.
My personal favorite is the Ferrero Rocher. I am a Ferrero Rocher lover and I love everything hazelnut. Gelateria Italia's Ferrero Rocher made me feel as though I was really having the chocolate. The hazelnut-chocolate taste was very well balanced and I felt like I was back in Italy, the land of gelatos.
The only downside is that for a really tiny cup of gelato, it came with a price tag of $4. Thinking of how I could get double the quantity at half the price in Italy, I wasn't that ready to fork out that amount.
Quality comes with a price
The ice cream here is the bomb! Handmade with only natural ingredients, it is already healthier than a lot of other brands out there. And when it comes to ice cream, the healthier the better.
I’ve sampled their flavours many times and even bought a single scoop once. The prices here are definitely not wallet-friendly. A single scoop, albeit a big one, can cost about $5! My heart hurts just thinking about it. Thankfully, you can sample a small glob of any flavour for free! This is something I always do when I come across an outlet of theirs.
A few flavours I highly recommend are After Eight (mint) and Cookies and Cream! Both flavours are the best of their kind I’ve ever tasted.
If you do decide to purchase their ice cream instead of just sampling, I would recommend sharing it with someone else first. Their ice cream, being natural, is richer than the normal ice cream. This could cause one to tire of the taste easily when eaten in large amounts.
If you want to indulge in some good Italian ice cream then you know your prayers would be answered at Gelateria Italia. They have a wide variety of flavours and you'll be spoilt for choices.
What bugs me the most though is the fact that it's really expensive for ice cream! Plus, the portions aren't even that big. My friend told me that they leave space at the bottom to fool customers into thinking that the cup is already full when it actually isn't. That's how you get cheated of your money.
But I cannot deny the fact that their ice cream tastes like heaven. They even have free toppings which makes up for the fact that it's overpriced. I can't wait to go back for some more!
The sweet-tooth in me
Gelateria Italia is a place you head to when you want to splurge on sinful dessert. They offer a good range of flavours and I must say, I was spoiled for choices. Standing in front of the counter, you would without a doubt have an epiphany and just want to taste everything! Or maybe it was just me.
If you are anything like me (I love everything sweet!), you will have a hard time making a decision on the flavours you want. But not to worry, their friendly staffs will let you try a spoonful of each flavour before you make your final choices. The only downside of it is the price. I suppose having this once in a while will be enough to satisfy the sweet-tooth in you.
Gelateria Italia at Bugis+ looks really eye-catching from the outside. Their display counter is bright, attractive and frankly made their gelato look really appetizing. I was a little overwhelmed by the number of flavours they have, extending over 2 counters worth of sorbet and cream based gelato. The counter staff were really friendly, patiently entertaining me as I picked 4 to 5 flavours to try from. Some places do glare at you for not being able to make up your mind, you know.
I tried Baileys and Run & Raisin flavour, simply because I'm kind of crazy about alcoholic flavours. I'm not an alcohol addict though! Maybe it is my expectations being set too high for such a grand looking place, I thought their gelato tasted normal. There was nothing to shout about really and it might have tilted a little on the plain tasting side as well. The 2 scoop gelato was also on the pricey side, costing $7+ as compared to other places which usually cost around $5/6. Not really value for money, but if you are looking for ice cream along Bugis area, you can give this a shot.
The first time I pass by their store I would just go wow.. all those colourful swirls of gelato, exquisitely placed that capture the attention of passer-bys and beer bottles shoved into the midst of the gelato just to illustrate that they use real stuff in their gelato. They have very interesting flavours, wide variety of exotic flavours. I especially love their liqueur flavours like whiskey, balieys or rum and raisins. The only thing I have with Gelateria Italia is that they have crazy colours for their ice cream that makes it seems 'poisonous' to me, like the crazy pink of the raspberry gelato. I think it is just me that have this notion, but all in all, they sell good gelato that is worth the price.
The service there is good, I remember asking to try various flavours and the staff was very patient with me which was much appreciated. If anything, go there for their variety and uniqueness when it comes to flavours!
These guys get my vote for a perfect 5.
One thing I love about Gelateria is the sheer range of flavours and also the premium quality of its ice cream. They taste full of cream and you get flavours like Ferrero Rocher, hazlenut, macadamia nuts and Mao Shan Wang durians!
I don't mind paying good money here. I get the best, any ice cream palour can offer.
Gelateria Italia serves up one of the best gelato in Singapore! I always get an adrenaline rush as I go up to the counter to try the various types of gelato, sometimes not knowing what to expect with the exotic names of some.
For some branches, there are sitting areas. The sitting areas are always decorated in such a way that is very cozy with plush cushion and sofas. A very nice place to spend an afternoon with close friends catching up and quite literally chilling as you spoon delicious delectable gelato into your mouth. To top it off, gelato is said to be more diet-friendly than normal ice-cream!
Spoilt for choice
I was wowed by the variety of flavours that Gelateria Italia had. I'm always eager to try out unconventional ice cream flavours, and I was so excited to see all the swirling, out-of-the-world colours. I could tell they spent much effort to make the ice-cream and shopfront look appealing. Almost every flavour was cleverly decorated. For instance, they placed the entire Baileys bottle in the Baileys ice cream tray. And if you are one who always counts your calories, you can opt for their yogurt flavours, which immediately sounds healthier. After much thought and trying (free of charge!), I went for Pistachios and Baileys. The servings were generous and I like that both the flavours were fragrant and didn't taste too sweet. But I will definitely be giving other flavours a go the next time because there are just too many to try!
I'm not sure about the other outlets, but the one at JCube does not have seats so some customers might not be too keen. My friends and I were not deterred by that though. We bought the icecream and proceeded to the ice skating rink seat gallery, which is free for all. On top of that, we had fun watching the ice skaters. A chill afternoon that we had indeed!
I’m a huge, huuuge gelato fan, so imagine my excitement when I first saw Gelataria Italia’s adorable storefront at Bugis+. Tempted, I pushed past the crowd to take a look at their gelato, and there were flavours like Ferrero Rocher, Hazelnut, Tolberone and Durian staring at me. In my face. How could I just walk away, right?
So yes, as you can imagine, that’s how I got my first cup of Gelataria Italia’s gelato. My family and I chose several different flavours to share, and I remember being in love with Hazelnut. It was so smooth and flavourful, and it was definitely one of the best hazelnut-flavoured desserts I had ever tasted. The chocolate-themed flavours were average. I mean, Snickers and Tolberone taste pretty similar when they’re cold. But don’t take my word for it! The store assistants are more than willing to let you sample different flavours before placing an order, which is great because you definitely do not want to pay almost $5 for a blah-tasting dessert. Great food, great service – I’m a happy customer!
