In 2004, Stanley Kwok set out with the idea of starting an ice cream parlor that would be unlike any other. This idea led to the birth of Singapore’s first ice-cream parlor that produces freshly made premium ice cream, proudly featuring local flavors. Island Creamery’s everyday commitment to making the best ice-cream means that each batch is made with care, using only premium quality ingredients. No artificial colors, flavorings or preservatives are used in the ice cream. The best part of this ice cream parlor is its absolutely original Singaporean flavors. Teh Tarik, Pulut Hitam, Pineapple Tart flavors.

And for the alcoholics, you get to taste a whole new refreshing taste of alcoholic flavors like Tiger Sorbet and Pear Sake. Be Spoilt for choice here are the list of flavors:

Black Forest • Soursop Pomegranate sorbet • Kahlua Latte • Horlicks • Bandung • Ping Pong • Milo • Kung Pao Cashew • Apple Pie • Brandied Cherry • Ice Kachang • Apple Crumble • Hazelnut • Spumoni • Dragon Fruit Sorbet • Kopi • Durian • Very Berry • Coconut Swirl • Mango Sorbet • Strawberry Sorbet • Peanut Peanut

Local flavour

Been coming here for my ice-cream fix since my secondary school days. From the sinful mud pies, to burnt caramel, milo ping-pong and teh tarik ice cream, there was something for whatever mood you were in. I especially liked that they didn't only capture the Singapore taste in name, but their pulut hitam really tasted authentic.

Their mud pies were everyone's favourite, with an oreo crust and three layers of ice cream within, the perfect treat for a sunny day. The burnt caramel is something that I have yet to see replicated at other ice cream places, the charred taste is something that makes me want to keep coming back for more.

If you crave it every day and are unwilling to make a trip down, they have takeaway tubs for your enjoyment as well.

I also liked that you could paste your own polaroid on the walls of the Serene Centre outlet. The prices are also reasonable for an ice cream of this quality, thumbs up! It's cheaper than places like Haagen Daaz or B&J, and the flavours and quality of ice cream are on par/better.

Really yummy!

With KAP's Island Creamery near my school, it was no doubt that I frequented that branch. It was also my favourite Island Creamery outlet, the students flocking there, the interior, the familiarity of the place. Needless to say, I still miss KAP very much!

Nostalgia aside, one of my favourite flavours would have to be apple pie. Ironically, I do not consume apple pies. Other flavours that I like would include burnt caramel, ping pong milo and nutella. If there was anything to nitpick about, it would have to be the rate the ice cream melts - absolutely too fast! Before long I would find my ice cream melted into a puddle :(

Some outlets like the Holland V's one gives a rather small, stingy amount of ice cream. For north-easters, many would be surprised to know that Compass point actually has an Island Creamery in an inconspicuous location - inside Cold Storage! Better, they serve rather big portions of ice cream!

I scream for ice cream

Before cafes, dessert places and ice cream parlors start sprouting up all over the island like mushrooms, there was Island Creamery.

Our first visit to the Serene Center branch was like taking a bite out of the Nutella ice cream; we did not even know we were lost till we were found. When the doors of the King Albert Park branch opened, we could not believe our eyes, similar to how we could not believe our taste buds when we tried the mixture of Horlicks powder and ice cream. The Milo powder finishing was when the Holland V branch opened, forever cementing Island Creamery as first and foremost in our ice-cream affections. There was no turning back.

Attempts at ice-cream poetry aside, the Nutella ice cream is honestly my all-time favorite. I even prefer this to Ben and Jerry's, but that is just me. The preponderance of unique local flavors has endeared Island Creamery to me and my friends; whenever we have gatherings or BBQs, there will definitely be a few tubs of Island Creamery on hand to finish the night. Other unique flavors that my friends favor are Bandung (which I never quite got, why can't you just get the drink, but I suppose you can say the same thing about Nutella), Horlicks and Reverso.

I shall end with a quote from one of my favourite authors; as the wise Brandon Sanderson aptly phrases it, “Not having ice cream is the culmination of all disasters!”

Ice Cream with a local twist

An ice cream parlour without the usual chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavours? It's like committing a crime, even. Eyebrows were raised when visiting Island Creamery. What they lack in convention, they make up for in authenticity and creativity. Without the plain Jane flavours like the ones mentioned above, you get uniquely Singaporean ones such as Pineapple Tart, Teh Tarik and the ever popular breakfast drink, Horlicks. Island Creamery also serves up desserts such as the Baked Alaska and the Reverso cake.

The price for a scoop was a pleasant surprise too, being $2.80 a scoop. That's half or even a third of what you pay at other ice cream parlours. The flavours are replicated well, however, they tend to be on the sweeter side, with youths in mind, perhaps. Older patrons may not appreciate this but it's a minor complaint.

Island Creamery is worth a shot, especially in a wave of dessert stores popping up islandwide, offering Singaporean flavours for a steal!

Favourite hangout

This was my favourite hangout when I was in secondary school. We often come here after CCAs of lessons and grab some ice cream as we chatted.

It is also one of my favourite place for local ice cream flavours such as teh tarik, pulut hitam and nutella. The service is fast and good, and they give a generous amount of ice cream. It would be great if you order some waffles to go along with your favourite ice cream because they compliment well with each other.

Chill Hangout

Island Creamery is the perfect hangout for students. It's also a good place if you want a chill place to hang out with your date.

I've always liked Island Creamery because it was super near where I used to school at and my friends and I could always walk there to hang out. The ice cream is also yummy and my favourite is their local flavour - teh tarik. I also like the fact that they hang up pictures of their customer and I feel like it adds a more welcoming touch to the place.

I like the "Kids Corner" too where people can draw with the crayon/chalk provided and hang up their drawings. Island Creamery is a lovely place to visit and everybody should visit the place someday.

Great place to indulge

As there was a branch located near where I studied, my friends and I would frequent Island Creamery whenever we had a free afternoon to chill. They have several options on their menu, the usual brownies, sundaes, milkshakes etc - things that you can basically find in 90% of dessert cafes/ice cream parlors.

What I strongly recommend you to do, is to visit Island Creamery with a whole bunch of friends, maybe 5-6 people. With such a sizeable group, you guys can consider purchasing the ice cream as a tub. Each tub is about x3 the size of a tub of Ben And Jerry's and is only about $10+. A very reasonable price, in my opinion, when you split it amongst your group.

Then, just sit back and relax, and enjoy some good company with great ice cream.

Value for money ice cream!

As it is situated near many schools, this place is usually packed with students during after school hours. The ambience is usually catered more for the younger generation with hip songs being played from the latest hits.

The ice cream is also interesting in some of their local flavours such as the 'bundung' ice cream or the 'chendol' ice cream. Definitely a must-try for people who might want to try different flavours of ice cream. One of my favourite ice cream is, however, the very berry flavour that is tasty in its milky flavour together with chunks of berry bits. The mud pie is also another favourite that many love: two layers of ice cream - one revers-o and one cookies and cream - is topped with crumbly oreo bits on the top of it.

The staff are efficient and fast in taking and serving the orders and the place is kept tidy and clean most of the time.

For the people who love to sit down and chill, there is a small corner at the side of the counter with chairs and cushions that make the get together in this ice cream shop more cosy. If you're up for it, there is also a guitar that is available for playing. Those who want to leave a memorabilia on the walls can also approach the staff to use the photo printer to paste a picture to add on to the photo montage collected on the walls.

Lastly, for all those who love the ice cream so much and wants to bring them home, the tub is worth every cent. Priced reasonably at about 9-11, the tub serves quite a handful of servings in its nice circular packaging!

Creamy goodness, but quite pricey

Just as the name suggests, the ice cream at Island Creamery is creamy and tastes really good. My favourite is the cookies and cream flavour, but they do have unique flavours like Teh Tarik, Pulut Hitam, Hollicks and Chendol, which you won’t see in other ice cream shops.

There is even take away ice cream, and my favourite of that is Reverso, a mix of chocolate and Oreo ice cream. (I like all things Oreo, actually) However, I feel that the prices are a bit pricey, and I can actually go to other ice cream shops for the same ice cream but for a better price. That is, if you are willing to forgo Island Creamery’s unique flavours.

Great Ice Cream and Pies

Island Creamery serves great ice cream that I find to be smooth and creamy! They have an interesting selection of flavors, my favourite being 'Nutella'. As it's name suggests, it's a hazelnut flavoured ice cream with swirls of chocolate incorporated into the blend. I haven't tried many other flavors simply because I'm already pretty contended with the 'Nutella' flavour and I can't seem to get sick of it.

Another great attribute is the pies. They are affordable considering how the prices for pies can go up to $10 in high end places. The Mud Pie is really dense and rich which tastes exceptionally good paired with an ice cream, as they serve it. The Baked Alaska is probably the second best. I took a bite out of my friend's and I really liked it. The cream was nice and fluffy and didn't seem too heavy which can usually be rather distasteful.
